Gunmen have attacked the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 11 people and injuring 10, French officials say.
Witnesses spoke of sustained gunfire at the office as the attackers opened fire with assault rifles before escaping.
Police have launched a major operation in the Paris area in their hunt for the attackers.
Charlie's latest tweet was a cartoon of the Islamic State militant group leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
The satirical weekly has courted controversy in the past with its irreverent take on news and current affairs.
The magazine was fire-bombed in November 2011 a day after it carried a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad.
President Francois Hollande is at the scene and is planning to hold an emergency cabinet meeting.

True, but that's hardly any different or worse from the way in which the US coddles inner city thugs in the name of "diversity."
I know I’ve been called out on many threads because of my copied & pasted post. I can certainly include every “western” nation in that post I made. We’re no different.
If I am this magazine, I go from mild satire to a full-on attack against Islam every single issue.
And I harden the offices, and arm the employees.
I expect it, but I’d be much relieved if there were an anti-Islamic riot in Paris and Muzzies were hanging from lamp posts while the police looked on passively. Not because I like that sort of thing, but it would prove at least there a few Frenchmen still have a pair. I really must do what I can to help Charli Hebdoe increase its circulation.
So true. On September 11th, there were muslims here in Canada who were DANCING and CELEBRATING in public. Why they weren’t all rounded up and deported back to their wonderful muslim countries is beyond me.
Those crazy Amish again.
How could anyone slander the profit? Say the most horrible thing you can think of about Mad Mo, and it turns out to be true.
The DNC and the MSM (but I repeat myself) have become the official defense counsel for islam.
Not if you have Steven Segal working on your magazine as a gopher. At least it would make a great action movie.
So what is Francois Hollande going to do about it? Issue a stern condemnation like Obama probably would. The World is upside down.
It should be obvious that all the bearded savages in the world are connected by a thread - a shared hatred for Christians and Jews and that there is no way they can live in peace and harmony with normal people.
They are rising up all over the world. They are murdering people throughout the world. The incidents are connected by the common thread.
Time for the world to wake up and expel the subhuman left-hand-a$$wipe bearded savages.
mohammed was a child rapist.
Can’t exercise that free speech enough.
Drudge just threw down the gauntlet posting the cartoon and not just a link to it.
And the free people of France should have organized a roving concert right through one of these zones. There rights are not being taken away, the French ran away from them.
...But the French like to run away.
RIP to the victims of this Satanist evil.
I’d almost criticize you for insensitivity, but then I read that Charlie Hebdo’s editor-in-chief Gerard Biard (was in London) said:
‘I am shocked that people can have attacked a newspaper in France, a secular republic. I don’t understand it.
‘I don’t understand how people can attack a newspaper with heavy weapons. A newspaper is not a weapon of war.’
Before I get into any more details of what I will say, I want to make clear that those of Islam, even if they came from God, should be dealt with (and by “dealt with”, I mean dropping a nuclear bomb during Mecca at the congregating spot and ensuring Islam is rendered extinct).
That being said, however, I want to make clear I shed absolutely no tears for Charlie Hebdo. As far as I’m concerned, they had it coming, especially after, like their forefather Voltaire, they proceeded to constantly mock Christianity and most likely looked up to the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. I do shed tears for France, although mostly because of the French Revolution destroying Christianity in that country, and hope for Catholicism’s restoration.
