YUP!
Perhaps. But then, for you, that may be very much like voting for the driest water: a loser's gamble. Certainly Romney was the antithesis of "conservative" on every single front, every one. Or did you fail to do your due diligence on his record? There was no "most conservative candidate," just as there is no "liquid-free" water. It's not a matter of being a purist, it's a matter of accepting reality. You refuse to accept the reality that when you vote for folks like Romney, you are voting FOR the Republican party to embrace the Democrat agenda.
Hard, simple, truth -- that "most conservative" is only your own wish with your vote; hard left is what your vote endorses, whether you intend to or not.
bump
She got the most conservative candidate that ran. Mitt and Barry were mirrors on all the big issues but Berry was once against gay marriage while in office.
By definition, Barack Obama should have been the lesser evil choice.
As if in less than two years, the GOP establishment protocol, dominated by a cheating minority such as the morally bankrupt mindset behind Cochran's "hard ball" politics of cheating to beat McDaniel in Mississippi, is going to magically reform itself? Really? In time to make it so the Republican party nominates an actual limited government conservative for the presidential candidate? Really?
Or are odds about ten thousand times more likely that the Republican party will nominate another Republican who is fundamentally on-board with all of the Democrat agenda, from government-run health care to the homosexual agenda, from on-demand abortion to full cooperation with the EPA? So that even if you vote Republican, you're still endorsing the entire Democrat agenda?
You are living in Wishville, FRiend.
VictoryGal and I live in Realville. It's pretty difficult, because clearly a third party is more likely to result in a power-weakening plurality no matter who wins, but at least our blinders are off. You are still buying into a fantasy.
You're right there, but I suspect it's like a rolling snowball -- or, more accurately, like a melting snowman. More and more people are wising up to the truth, even though they don't like what the truth happens to be.
For example: A few days ago I was "preaching it on the street" among fellow Republicans, four to be exact, friends at a party where lots were conservatives and politics was okay as a topic. I gently made it clear that Romney and like-minded functional Democrat "Republicans" are both seriously bad choices and big mistakes regardless of party, that I was now thinking in terms of being accountable and responsible for what I vote FOR.
It really irked these folks, they were deeply agitated, feeling trapped -- that voting Republican, even if it was for Romney, was their only "escape," except of course it offers zero escape, just formal endorsement of Republicans who think the Democrat agenda is headed in the right direction, but Republicans would do the same thing "better" because Republicans are the "grown-ups."
I gently, peacefully, with friendliness and love and diamond-hard conviction, stated it in terms of gambling, as all votes are gambles -- we gamble that the candidate we vote for will do at least some, if not all, of what we want.
I stated a very obvious truth: voting for Republicans like Romney who advance the prevailing Democrat approach to every major issue, from global warming to on-demand abortion, from the homosexual forced-acceptance agenda to the legitimacy of government controlling health care and health insurance -- that voting FOR that on the pretense of voting "against" a Democrat who pushes for the same ... is a SUCKER'S BET.
Out of four people, I saw very clearly the dubious, shocked, unhappy truth dawning on one of them as the light bulb went on (the other clung to angry denial). One out of four, and likely that person doesn't even know it yet, but THE TRUTH WILL OUT, eventually.
I preach it on the streets, so to speak. People don't like it, but truth is truth and honest people accept the truth, eventually.
Bump to that, Una Ala'd Tiburon! Yet there are some on FR who loudly and frequently bear false witness and claim that any and all sympathizers with small-l libertarian limited government philosophy are only really in favor of legalized drug use and child pornography. This small band of anti-libertarian FReepers heinously insult new-comer kindred conservative spirits to come to FR, and drive them away not only from Free Republic, but from its freepathons.
I would much rather see THEM zotted, and they number perhaps a dozen individuals, than to see FR zot well-meaning but still-blinded patriots who have yet to wake up to the fact that yes, Virgina, leftist Republicans really ARE as bad as leftist Democrats. Those people only foster discussion on FR, though Norm and I disagree with their position; the anti-small-l libertarian faction, on the other hand, drives potential donors away by shouting down discussion with FALSE ACCUSATIONS of DEPRAVITY.
When you stop voting to turn the Republican party left. Is that a deal?
And yes, exactly — sigh with patient sadness because YOU are a cliché. YOU have yet to wake up, and YOU are old, old, old news and it’s sad. It requires a lot of patience not to just want to throw you out altogether because YOU vote for the Republican party to turn hard left.
You need to get down off your cross.
I look at it this way. I believe in the principles FR was built on. And I will fight for that because I belive in that. If no one else does, and I don’t car who, then they can try to have me zotted and the cards can fall where they may. I don’t really fear lightning because I am not siding with liberals. And if lightning does strike me, so be it. My beliefs arent changing.
But no one at this stage can claim innocence. Not after Romney, not after Cromnibus and not after today. If they side with the GOP and persist in supporting an evil group, as provenly evil as the dems, they arent salvagable.
When Levin and Rush LEAVE the GOP, then more righteous patriots will find the courage of their convictions and act to save this country.
As long as Levin and Rush remain part of the GOP ... they confirm that they are cowards in their convictions. I pray that both of them do what is RIGHT and throw "pragmatic" into the garbage where it belongs.
LOL!!! You're right!!! Man, that's sad!
No announcement from Levin on his show. His fans are really upset wit me for calling him on it. I guess hes. down to 3.4 nanometers away now though!
Rush is an entertainer by his own admission so I almost give him some slack. But Levin is just a flat out fraud. He writes books, screams and pumps up conservatism, then tells people to vote r]Romney and later pretends it never happened...going right back to screaming conservatism.
Thats historical fact. If people don’t like that, they should ask him why.
You need to stop LYING to yourself. You vote for the Republican party to embrace the Democrat agenda -- and because you cannot admit that truth to yourself, you have to pretend that I'm putting myself on a cross because I state a plain truth that I have to be PATIENT with idiots like you who stubbornly keep your eyes squeezed so firmly shut and your fingers so firmly planted in your ears.
Instead, Levin urged people to VOTE for betraying liberty.
Bad, bad juju.
I said before. He HAS done good things. But that does not excuse his romney/GOP sycophancy. When it comes to crunch time, he’s ALWAYS there in their corner.
We see your true colors shining through ... true colors, just like a rainbow!
