There’s a Gun in My House
pjmedia.com ^ | 1/4/2015 | Paula Bolyard

Posted on 01/04/2015 9:22:27 AM PST by rktman

Last April, right after the horrific bombing in Boston, I wrote about how I “evolved” on guns the night of the manhunt for the two men thought to be responsible for the bombings. Here’s what I wrote last year:

First, a confession: I’ve never owned a gun. I never wanted one in my home and, like a lot of moms, I wanted to raise non-violent children and thought keeping guns out of our home was one way to do that … Then came the day of the Boston Marathon, where bombs set off by baby-faced terrorists killed 3 individuals and injured another 264. I spent the evening, all the way into the next morning, listening to the Boston Police Scanner and followed social media online so I could see the progression of the search for the subjects in real time during the manhunt. At one point, someone tweeted this: “I’m halfway across the country but if someone knocked on my door right now I’d pee my pants.” A moment of levity during a very serious, very scary night. It was the moment I evolved on guns — the moment my support for the 2nd Amendment went from abstract to concrete.

The troubling part is below the header "And I'm strangely OK with it. " There should be nothing strange about it at all. But, this is a continuation of Ms.Bolyard's adventure in to firearms ownership. Some may recall previous accounts of the transition. At least she says she's gone from abstract about the 2nd to concrete. That's more than I can say for Ben Carson. Has he evolved yet? If you're not sure of your stance on the Bill of Rights, then you ain't the guy/gal. Good work Ms. Bolyard on your advancement. FrontSight here I come?

I notice this wasn’t featured in the Boston Globe.

Maybe she should write “THERES A GUN IN MY HOUSE AND NO BURGLARS, RAPISTS OR MURDERS.”

Good for you Paula. To be armed and properly trained is smart. Meanwhile, keep it under your hat ,figuratively speaking. There are too many Bloomberg Nannies who spend their days dreaming of ways to disqualify you as an appropriate gun owner. Be proud, but don’t be too loud.

The problem with advertizing a gun owning homeowner is that you are not home all the time. When you are not home your house is a gun Walmart for criminals.

This lady's initial mistake was thinking that not having a gun in her house was on an equal plane to not raising violent children. My wife and I are not violent and we own several guns. When are kids were young, we taught them to shoot and how to be safe. We didn't teach them violence as an answer to their problems. Law-abidding citizens, including children, are not necessarily violent because they own gun, whether to hunt or for defense. Far from it. Quite the contrary. They know how to defend themselves from the crazies in the world who would do people harm because they are not right in the head.

I'm glad this woman came to her senses. Now she needs to take some gun safety classes and learn to shoot at the range so she is proficient. When her kids are ready, she needs to do the same with them.

“(we don’t have children in the house so locking it up is not a pressing issue)”

One minor change to the above is likely called for: She doesn’t have any children LIVING in the house.

One still has to consider visitors, always.

Welcome to the War, lady.

Every one we take from the other side is one less voice they have to send against us.

Why is that? I am 76 years old and there has never been a time that I did not have loaded guns in my home, never once had a visitor pull one on me.

I raised my 3 girls and 1 boy around guns. When they were no longer classifiable as toddlers they were deliberately accustomed to them. They were shooting before they were officially old enough for school. They are all pretty handy with hand guns and long guns.

Cut some slack for Ms. Bolyard while a long held belief crumbles before her eyes. There may be others to follow.

Be proud, but don’t be too loud.

Huh?

So IOW no NRA stickers, no Open Carry, nothing which shows your love of the 2A.

And people wonder why we lose our rights with "advice" such as this?
