In 1951, "Sixty Minute Man" was considered naughty. By the mid-Fifties, it was Elvis and his swiveling hips. The Summer of Love produced a whole song repertory about getting it on. The Seventies brought homosexuality into the mainstream courtesy of the Village People. The Eighties brought rap. The Nineties brought "Baby's Got Back". That's when I bailed.

Chris Rock did a comedy bit about white girls singing along with hip-hop and loving the dirtiest lyrics.

Regretfully, I'm reminded of what hard-core Southern segregationists said about "race mixing" in the Fifties and Sixties. It's one of those things that I'm not comfortable thinking about. Certain pathologies have leached into the white population. Our popular culture is suffering. One only has to listen to our 1941 Pearl Harbor Day tribute to see how things have fallen.

Everybody wants to be on the cutting edge of culture. Unfortunately, it's the edge that causes blood loss.

Yes, people have been “shocked” in every generation. But before it was perception and now it’s in your face obscenities that can’t be rationalized away by the “generation gap”. In my opinion, of course.

That tribute was the most fun I’ve had in ages! :)

The Greatest Generation had the greatest music. Irving Berlin's death at age 101 in 1989 marked the end of an era.

(Irving about Taco: "Sure looks like a fag to me.")

I did!

I can only use it once a year, and I happened to have the “Heroes Thread” both Christmas and New Years Day this year!

The only thing I know for sure is the big fireworks display downtown. And it’s dark out so they can be seen. The 4th of July fireworks can’t be seen as well.

Glad you enjoyed the transition to 2015, and a wonderful time was had by all.

It was a good point that needed to be made. A not so good sign of the times.

A sobering experience for us old folks.
