Regulation: Cures for cancer and Ebola having been found, the federal ubernannies have decreed that sprinkles should no longer adorn kids' ice cream because they contain the trans fat that liberal groups once pushed for.
Come the New Year, the Food and Drug Administration, ignoring the principle that in most cases it's the dose that defines the poison, will issue new regulations designed to remove even trace amounts of hydrogenate oils, commonly known as trans fats, from our diets.
Trans fats have been in our foods since the 1950s to increase shelf life and improve taste. A small amount appears naturally in some foods, but research has determined that large quantities of trans fats in one's diet can be dangerous for long-term health.
But so can large quantities of bacon, and no one has proposed banning bacon, at least not yet, but we're sure that thought has occurred to those who want 16-ounce soft drinks banned while forcing our children to eat cardboard school lunches.
Each American consumes a mere 1.3 grams of trans fats per day. That's roughly 0.6% of our total daily calories, and no research suggests that this poses a health risk. But that's not enough to dissuade the federal nannies from regulating even the most minute aspect of our daily lives.

[The Donuts of Doom!]
Apparently there are those who want to “punish” opulent Americans by giving them their just desserts - gruel and water.
Sorry, but the reality is, had science been where it is today when Transfat was created it would have NEVER been allowed into the food industry, the stuff is beyond toxic, and we are going to see a whole lot of folks in their 30s and 40s today dropping dead of heart disease because it was not only allowed in, but sadly pushed as a replacement for saturated fats in the late 80s and 90s.
This stuff, man made transfat, should be completely banned from use in food production and preparation. This isn’t some global warming nonsense, this is clear, experimentally proven and repeatable fact. Trans Fat is poison and should not be a food additive, or be used in food preparation.
Making this ban a “nanny state” argument is just flat out hogwash.
Wait, wasn’t this posted as satire yesterday?
If this keeps up, I will start calling for America's collapse.
I have lived strictly on transfat, ONLY, no fruits and vegetables or meats. I am the picture of health. TAKE YOUR NANNY STATE SOMEWHERE ELSE.
1) I highly doubt your claim and 2) if you feel you are healthy, after such a life, get back to us in a decade or two.
The science on this is not in debate, the stuff is toxic, this isn’t some “the majority of scientists agree” type claim, the stuff is poison. Just because its slow acting does not mean its not toxic.
To spin this as nanny statism is just moronic... You know you can drink water from 100% lead pipes your entire life as well and “be the picture” of health until the concentrations in your body get to the point where you literally go mad because your neurological system can no longer properly function, but so what, its nanny state that lead isn’t allowed to be used for water pipes or in food preparation, lets teach those nanny staters and remove that ban... what do they know.
Seriously, ignorance is not your friend.
Ahhh the good ol’ days. Butter was terrible for you. Coconut oil was absolutely evil and the worst thing ever. Then good ol’ margerine saved us all from an agonizing death of clogged arteries. Plastic bags would stop the deforestation of old growth forests. Oops, now margerine is the worst thing ever and butter is all natural organic and coconut oil is sold by huge tubs in health food stores and placed in all natural organic paper bags.
I remember seeing it as well had the (semi-satire/semi-news) tag on it as I recall.
Another IBD ‘partial story’.
This is about banning PHO’s. Most sprinkles do not have PHO’s.
We call them “sprills”
Where have I heard that "the science is settled" stuff before?
Oh yeah! Global warming!
Show your evidence please.
The amount of sprinkles is trivial. Government has no right to do this.
Science is based on statistics. That means that while something may have measurable harmful effects for some, many or even most people it is extremely rare that it is toxic for all people.
The “nanny state” takes some and treats it as though it is “all” because it does not view us as individuals but rather as statistics.
Hope that helps.
Annie Sprinkle has been Banned???
What is this world coming to?
But we’ve ceded that principle. Many happily. You absolutely cannot give the Government the power to ban “A” and then get upset when they move on to “B”, “C”, and “D”.
The paradigm under which we operate is if that somebody can make the case that something is “bad”, then Government can step in. That’s the ball we’ve put into play, no sense getting upset when someobody takes a swing at it.
NANNY STATE PING
It’s almost impossible to by “real” lard. Butchers used to sell it but now they don’t even know what it is!
I buy the same lard my grandma used, only now it’s packaged like a pound of butter.
Don’t Sprinkles When You Tinkles Nanny State PING!
That Hormel stuff?
