WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS2/FOX28) -- Next week, lawmakers will return to Congress. Often a formality, the new session will have to elect a new Speaker of the House. But a growing number of conservative Republicans are mounting a challenge to Speaker Boehner. In a radio interview last week, North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones said he's meeting with more than a dozen Republicans considering to submit another name for the leadership. Though pundits see the challenge as a long shot, the hope of Boehner's opponents is to deny him a majority of votes so that he's forced to drop out of the race. Most believed to be challenging the Speaker are doing so behind closed doors, but in a post on Twitter, Rep. Tom Massie of Kentucky hinted he would oppose Boehner, by posting a sign that reads "Next Speaker Please." Far-right factions of the Republican party are upset with Boehner over his unwillingness to challenge President Obama's executive orders on immigration policy before the end of the year. Most in the Republican party still support the Speaker. An aide for Speaker Boehner says there will be no punishment for members of his party who choose to vote against him.

Boehner ain’t going anywhere................
Yes, the voting for Speaker of the House is simple majority voting of all members with no regard to party unlike the Senate where only the majority party elects the leader. This is how Boner and other RINOs have stayed in power because they have enough Republicans on their side to prevent challengers from not just beating them, but also outvoting the RATS meaning that voting against them puts the RATS in charge.
It's pretty sickening to know that there are that many Republicans who would rather see Pelosi as Speaker again rather than vote against Boner. Bear in mind that many of them are the same ones who whine about Cruz and Lee putting principles over politics. Fake phony frauds they are.
No, to win as speaker, one must win a majority of the votes [not a plurality].
So even if Nancy had more votes than boehner, she would not win unless she got 218+ votes. But with 179 dems, she can’t. In that case there is a re-vote.
Embarrassment of embarrassments to beohner would be this scenario. He would not run again for speaker - and if he did and was subsequently elected, he would be unimaginably weaker to his own party.
I e-mailed my Congressman days ago. I encouraged him to vote AGAINST John Boehner for Speaker. However, he was just elected in November, replacing Steve Stockman, who needs to be put in an alcohol rehab, or mental hospital, somewhere. So, being a new Freshman Congressman, he probably won’t have the intestinal fortitude to buck a powerful man like Boehner.
He’s been worse than useless, like Darrell Issa and Juan McCain. As their ‘best men’, we’ve done everything but lift them on-and-off the bride. It’not looking good.
The Democrats may break the “two terms and out” executive branch phenomenon with the leadership these two have shown.
Then the new GOP will join the Whigs in history’s landfill.
Even my own rep, Pence’s replacement Luke Messer is looking wobbly. The Beltway syndrome?
Political power: use it or lose it, boys!
Why would he? The Weeper and his gang are all running unopposed.
