No, to win as speaker, one must win a majority of the votes [not a plurality].

So even if Nancy had more votes than boehner, she would not win unless she got 218+ votes. But with 179 dems, she can’t. In that case there is a re-vote.

Embarrassment of embarrassments to beohner would be this scenario. He would not run again for speaker - and if he did and was subsequently elected, he would be unimaginably weaker to his own party.

I’d settle for that; since we probably can’t get him voted out of the Speaker’s Chair. That would be a sweet victory for our team; embarrass the crap out of him before the entire nation.
