A certain Texas Republican still has plenty of fans. Sen. Ted Cruz has won the Federalist Today Presidential Straw Poll with 26 percent of the nearly one thousand votes cast. The field included 16 potential candidates. Placing a respectable second and third, Senator Rand Paul (22 percent) and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (16 percent) showed that they also have considerable support among the lovers of freedom and anxious for the fray Federalist faithful, report David Corbin and Matt Parks, two analysts for The Federalist - a learned and vibrant online journal.
The political insider would, undoubtedly, not be impressed. Good luck getting Senators Cruz or Paul elected President of the United States. Any such insurgents campaign will be undone by a press that favors Democrats, a bare-knuckles Republican establishment that favors milque-toast candidates, and a bewildered flyover electorate conditioned to favor one flavor-of-the-month insurgent presidential candidate after another, to the detriment of any effective insurgent candidacy, say Mssrs. Corbin and Parks.
These same insiders would have no problem envisioning a scenario in which insurgent Democrat Elizabeth Warren, establishment Democrat Hillary Clinton, or establishment Republicans Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, or Chris Christie win the presidency. Ruling-class smugness aside, these folks have a point: playing by the normal rules, the least likely outcome in 2016 is a victory by a Republican insurgent, even though 40 percent of Americans consistently identify themselves as conservatives (twice the typical number of progressives) But who says we have to play by their rules? the pair ask....

Ever heard of “thin ice” new person?
Maybe, is that the same as meaningless straw polls?
What was your screen name here before you were banned the last time?
Friend, if you have a problem with me you can speak it, and I would welcome your honesty.
If I have expressed views that you find too threatening to contemplate, do what you have to do. I would welcome your words but if it’s your club you wish to wield, go ahead and purge away!
i did it time and again regarding bh0bama and mrubio. tcruz is just the same.
hell, tcruz wasn’t even born in the freakin country.
do your own homework. it’s not difficult.
0bama wasn’t eligible as he was born a US citizen (by being born on in hawaii) and a british citizen (via his father). his mother wasn’t in the US for more then 5 years after her 14th birthday when she gave birth, so she couldn’t bestow any citizenship rights.
mrubio was born on the soil to 2 cuban citizens. at birth, he was a US and cuban citizen.
tcruz was born in canada to a US mother and a cuban father. at birth, he had the choice of US, canadian, and cuban citizenships.
as for what makes someone a natural born citizen, it’s fairly obvious and was common parlance when used in the Constitution. the term is used to describe someone as being a ‘natural born citizen’ of a country... as there were no alternatives. they simply had to be a citizen of that country.
why does this matter? the founders discussed it. they used the phrase in an effort to insure that the person holding the most powerful office in the land wouldn’t have any split allegiances, at least by birth.
the only ones confused about the definition are those trying to shoe-horn in their favored candidate.
it’s tough to call yourself a conservative if you’ll gladly drop the basic tenets of the Constitution when it becomes inconvenient.
Tell the site owner that.
What kind of a fraud are you? Ron Paul and Ted Cruz are similar how? Please explain. Or would you rather make your imbecilic post and run?
Bullcrap. Cruz was BORN a US citizen, through his mom. I don’t understand your twisted logic. Since Ted lived in America, how could anyone believe that he may have chosen, as a baby, to have “split allegiances”.
Sadly, your read of the stupids is correct. This is how they FEEL (since they don't THINK, as we understand the word).
Buyer's remorse over Obola gets transmorgrified into possible redemption by a Willard vote.
And for all of that, she won’t run again.
you can become a US at birth by either being born on the soil or having at least one US citizen parent that had spent more then 5 years in the US since they were 14.
as such... if prince william and kate flew to NY and delivered their child while on vacation, the child would be a US citizen AS WELL AS the future king of england. this is EXACTLY the situation the founders wanted to insure against.
as such, they used the phrase ‘natural born citizen’ as a requirement for the president, the only position in the country with such a requirement. this would disqualify william and kate’s kid as he had multiple citizenship possibilities at birth. this same test can be applied to bh0bama, mrubio, bjindahl and tcruz.
once again, a natural born citizen is a citizen naturally... as there are no alternatives.
it’s that simple and was common parlance (at least in the US and EU) during the time of the founders.
He’s a natural born citizen.
The royal example you state is a bastardization of the Constitutional intent. If either William or Kate WAS an American citizen, the child WOULD be American, and eligible for the Presidency. Bob
if kate were a US citizen, the child would still be a british citizen via william. yes, he’d be a US citizen as well... but not naturally as he can choose either.
same with bh0bama, mrubio, bjindahl, and tcruz
most Americans are unfamiliar with this as they were born on the soil to 2 US citizens. myself, i was born on US soil to a US father and a scottish mother. just like bh0bama, i am a US citizen as well as british (it’s not uncommon for people like me to have multiple passports)
I was unaware that Ted had chosen either Canadian or Cuban citizenship for himself.
the fact of having a choice is the issue
I didn't know that either. Great news!
Well, it’s pretty clear that Ted has chosen America. I wish I could count upon other Republicans to represent OUR country, and not the internationalists. Bob
