Demand For ‘The Interview’ Is Shooting Up In North Korea And Its Government Is Freaking Out

More and more North Koreans are becoming aware of the North Korea-mocking movie “The Interview,” and the government is doing everything to block it from getting smuggled in to the country.

According to Free North Korea Radio, an online radio network made by North Korean defectors, demand for “The Interview” has been shooting up among North Koreans. It says people are willing to pay almost $50 a copy of the movie, which is 10X higher than what a regular South Korean TV show’s DVD would cost in the black market.

In response, North Korea’s State Security Department and The Ministry of People’s Security held an emergency meeting recently, and told its officers to make sure the movie doesn’t make it into the country under any circumstances.

The report says the North Korean government has beefed up its border security inspection level, and even told black market dealers to not bring in any kind of US movie for the time being.

I have my doubts on this report. The idea that someone would spend $50 (two weeks of income) for a DVD that might cost his life seems implausible.

The American Movie Distributors will be pressured to turn over information on exactly who in North Korea dared to order this movie at this time, in bod defiance of The Kim?

Hopefully, that Movie Distributors won’t serve as Stool Pigeon for those North Koreans. If they did, I wouldn’t be that surprised.

Yes, but how many North Korean citizens have internet access? Also, how do you know your link visits are not being monitored?

Report who orders it in North Korea? Please tell me you realize that people in North Korea have no ability -whatsoever- to order sort of consumer product. They have no internet, no mail, no exchangeable money, no phone contact with the outside world.
Any copies arriving in North Korea would be smuggled in, under a death penalty in one of their active death camps if caught.

“Almost $50 a copy” eh? How many of us would pay that much for any one movie DVD?

What you describe is most likely the truth. It’s hard for the average American to believe that an entire country could be held down under such cruel repression and deprivation. Alas, it really IS that way, even in the 21st Century!

What shocks me more is that this ‘Royal Family Line’ has not been disposed of by some of it’s own military. Most likely, the Kim Jung Culture has it so every officer lives in suspicion and dread of being tattled on or lied about by another officer. A self policing environment thrives on paranoia, and perpetuates itself.

From your lips to God’s ears!

And I’d LOVE to see a sequel with them Raul Castro getting it next. We watched THE INTERVIEW tonight and I literally cheered.

Can’t they download it free and free of censorship off a mirror site?

” A self policing environment thrives on paranoia, and perpetuates itself.”

exactly right I think too.

North Korean monthly income is probably less than $50 per month. The country’s GDP divided by the number of the total population would be little more than twice that, but each individual does not get anywhere near an equal share of it (see big military buildup, other monstrous government expenditures).

So a better way to put it would be this question. Would any of us give a month’s income for a copy of any movie on a DVD? And chances are, very few North Koreans have anything to play a DVD on.

Any time a commie gets his “Ceacescu Moment” it’s a great thing to celebrate.

Looking forward to it... on multiple fronts...

Who’s “they”?

Ordinary North Koreans don’t have internet access.

My wife and I watched it using our Google Chromecast through the Play Store. It was tasteless, gross, stupid, absurd and completely unrealistic but we laughed from beginning to end. We never would have watched it under normal circumstances. The goofy expressions that James Franco makes throughout the movie are absolutely hilarious.

I mentioned it first on an “Interview” thread that I hope this movie would make it Norklandia via helium balloons that the South Koreans periodically send into the north when the winds are favorable.

I never expected to see demand for it from the NorKs!

They could carpet bomb the Norks with “The Interview” collectable cards, with money shots from the movie.

They could project clips onto clouds above cities
