DETROIT (WXYZ) - Police now say that the shooting that led to the death of 16-year-old Grosse Pointe teen Paige Stalker may have been an attempted robbery.
Three other teens - a girl and two boys - suffered non-life threatening injuries when the car they were sitting in was shot up. Officers say as many as 30 shots were fired into the car.
Police are still searching for a suspect in the case. They say the teens originally told them stories that just didn't add up.
However, officers now say they have gotten a very clear description of the man who fired into the car. He is described as African American. He is about 6 feet tall and was wearing camo fatigues and maybe a bullet proof vest.

Story is kind of hinky. Drug deal gone bad?
Well, earlier stories said the kids in the care were smoking pot so a drug deal “gone bad” makes sense.
Thanks for posting. Condolences to family and friends of Paige Stalker and GPUL.
Robbery my butt. That guy “.....Officers say as many as 30 shots were fired into the car.” was out to kill somebody.
Guys with intent to rob don’t hang around poppin’ off thirty rounds into somebodies car. IF they can’t rob them, they run until they find someone else they can rob.
Son of a Bam.
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
He could be described as Negro, but there is no evidence he is African, was ever in or near Africa, and certainly no evidence he is AMERICAN.
It bothered him that they were out in public smoking pot, breaking the law. He decided to hand out some street justice.
If you think that what goes on in places like Chicago, Detroit and Oakland can’t happen in other towns and cities you need to have more faith that the federal government will make it happen.
Just wait until Obama’s Justice Department demands that local and state law enforcement “equalize” arrest and conviction rates for blacks and non-blacks similar to the demand they have already made that schools “equalize” rates of disciplinary action for blacks and non-blacks.
There is a lot more to this than a simple drug deal gone bad or robbery. It almost sounds like a planned hit.
The perp got out of the car in body armor and opened up with what sounds like a full auto weapon. That doesn’t sound like a robbery or a bad drug deal unless surviving victims are lying.
My guess - stupid kids in bad neighborhood look to buy drugs. Happened to some kid that lived around the corner in 1998.
Went to New Haven to buy drugs. Got shot. “Friend” dumped him on the neighbor’s front lawn where he died. Big deal around these parts to see yellow police tape blocking the streets.
New Haven cops hid evidence about the shooter because he was a gang informant about a New Haven police captain’s kid who was shot by a Jamaican gang member. No one as ever prosecuted,
“Officers say as many as 30 shots were fired into the car...He is described as African American. He is about 6 feet tall and was wearing camo fatigues and maybe a bullet proof vest.”
That’s about an order of magnitude more than what’s appropriate for robbing a car full of white kids, and a bit heavy for a simple “drug deal gone bad.”
Its not unusual for crooks in Detroit to wear body armor these days since it is an open carry city with stand your ground laws but this just doesn’t sound like a robbery to me.
This sounds more like a planned assassination by someone who knew when and where to find the target.
Your post 5 makes sense.
It's not rocket surgery.
Doesn’t sound like a sour drug deal, sounds like A) a slight misunderstanding, B) mistaken identity, or C) a ‘lone wolf’ attack completely unrelated to the orderly peaceful protests against police brutality and racial profiling. /s
Workplace violence?
I think both of those accounts may be a bit cloudy. I was wearing a dark down vest last night at my sister's house and in the dark it could easily have been mistaken for a kevlar vest.
As for the gun fire, I think that was reported by someone in the neighborhood but it more likely a semi-auto
As a side note, my niece, who is an ER Doctor at that Beaumont was on duty that night. While the news reports say they were driven to Beaumont, they were immediately transferred to St. John Hospital over on Moross since Beaumont does not have a trauma center equipped to handle gunshot victims.......
