DAYTON, OH (FOX19) - The Middletown teen who was shot and killed at the Dayton Mall over the weekend was trying to steal shoes from a man with a concealed carry license, police say.
Officials say the investigation shows that three male juveniles approached two men outside of the hhgregg store just after 10 a.m.. According to police, 16-year-old Jawaad Jabbar got out a gun and demanded merchandise from the men.
One of the men, who police say had a valid concealed carry license, produced his gun and shot Jabbar. Jabbar died from injuries sustained from the gunshot. "This was a random act of, 'I want something that person has and I'm going to take it from them,'” said Sgt. Jay Phares of the Miami Township Police Department.
Miami Township and Miamisburg police departments as well as the Montgomery County Sheriff's Officer and Dayton Mall security officers assisted with the investigation.
Police say all suspects were apprehended, witnesses were interviewed and several pieces of evidence were collected at the scene. Two male teenagers are now being held at the Montgomery County juvenile detention center awaiting charges.
According to authorities, all of the people directly involved in the incident were at the mall to attend a limited athletic shoe release sale. Police say the two groups did not know each other and they only communicated when an aggravated robbery was attempted.
Officials say Jabbar was the only person injured. The investigation is still ongoing.
“JJ was a good kid, making good decisions and turning his life around. Everytime he stepped on the field, he was determined to be the best player. It's upsetting that his life ended so soon and I just want to send prayers out to his family and he will really be missed,” a fellow football teammate, Messiah Haralson, told FOX19 NOW.
Middletown Middles athletics sent a tweet Saturday night in honor of Jabbar.
FOX19 NOW spoke to Jabbar's father by phone late Sunday. He says his son is a world-class young man, a good athlete and a good student.
Last week more than 200 people waited outside a Toledo area mall to get their hands on a limited edition of Air Jordan shoes. Toledo police had to set up barricades for the large crowd but some of shoppers pushed through the barricades, even knocking down some officers. Police were forced to deploy pepper spray balls to control the unruly crowd.

If a teen doesn’t act like a jackass or a thug there’s no need for “Turning his life around”. Neither of my kids have ever turned their lives around because there’s been no need to.
Has any dead felon ever tried to live by the “early to bed, early to rise” motto and put in even one week’s worth of legitimate effort at a real job? Most likely not.
Ahem... these people at this point (if sincere) are more in tune with what God says than you are. It’s like you think if you put forth some outward signs even from childhood on, you are now in utter tune with virtue? Pride over show may be worse than being desperate over nothing to show.

As soon as I read he was being robbed of his shoes I figured there was a 80 to 90 percent chance the shooter was a negro.
As a whole, the Negro race seems to covet things rather than enriching their souls. I have no idea why but that just seems to be the case.

How does it happen to be that, during the present historical times, the peoples of African descent have seen such spiritual trouble. Which is what evil is. Men have tried various explanations. Sometimes they were a bit too facile, like the theory about Noah’s son Ham (and that was shamefully a common one in early Southern Baptist/Democrat practice) that just posited hey God was punishing that race, why interfere. Africa is an area of dark religions, which could have something to do with it, but why the same demons should pursue men on a different continent and far removed from those faiths is unknown to me.
God certainly can choose whom He wants to appear and when and how even without forcing their hand. The old Kipling idea of the white man’s burden sure seems to be playing out today.
Gospel is the only thing that can cut through the evil. Circumstances can serve to modulate it, but only gospel can cut through it. At one point, good gospel was almost synonymous with the black race (during Jim Crow days). Well, the devil broke that up. Not that Jim Crow was the cause of this gospel dedication, but it provided an opportunity for it to be expressed against a real resistance. Bribing the black race was about the worst thing that could be done to it, worse even than slavery as horrible as that is to say.
It is so such a joke it’s almost comical. Whenever one of these thugs gets snuffed out it’s the same.

All that’s missing is the obligatory photo of Jabbar in a graduation cap and gown from the 7th grade.
President Johnson obviously knew that when he designed his program to destroy the Black Family.
