Joe Cocker has died aged 70 after a battle with lung cancer.
His management confirmed his passing to Britain's IITV News.
Born John Robert Cocker in Sheffield, he achieved international success as a blues/rock singer beginning in the 1960s and recorded 40 albums.
“Have a little Faith in Me.”
“Shelter Me”
“Love is Alive”
“Edge of A Dream”
“You are so Beautiful”
“With a Little Help from My Friends”
and my favorite, “You can Leave Your Hat On.”
I laughed and laughed over that one. It’s hilarious.
The song was actually written by Billy Preston, one of the Beatles' and George Harrison's sidemen, and Bruce Carleton Fisher.
You Can Leave Your Hat On was written by the incomparable Randy Newman, whom I saw live in the 70s. So talented and prolific.
But as an interpreter of songs, Cocker was a master, and coming from nowhere and nothing to bare his heart and soul and achieve success. Loved him. Condolences to his loved ones and fans.
John had Joe's facial down pat.
Maybe they are performing together right now.
Just awesome. The smile on my face from watching that is gonna last the rest of the day ....
great song, great rendering. RIP brother
save for later..
Thanks for posting!
Thanks for all the memories, Joe.
I think he was just the musical guest.
I am stunned.LOVED his voice and music
Joe was so great. I love his “Cry Me a River” too.
Rest in peace.
Well, a lot of the music from that day isn’t very interesting to me anymore; it pulls me down into a particular time and ‘Zeitgeist’ that I became disillusioned with rather quickly.
Still love Joe Cocker, though.

I went through a divorce. sold my practice and drove out to San Diego knowing no one in the Spring of ‘91. Joe kept me sane on that long lonely drive from Ohio to California.
Love his “Great Divide” and his “Have a Little Faith in Me,” but my all time favorite is a song with just two chords, “High Time We Went.” Still don’t know what he says, but he sings it with such passion :)
Never “got” his act.
Well, that’s the thing; I don’t think it was ever an “act”. He was a sincerely passionate performer and interpreter.

Saw him at Woodstock when I was 17 . R.I.P.
“Because it was a better version.”
And cheaper I’d assume.
The Cocker version, even if the Beatles’ version was available, does seem to fit better for the opening of a TV show.
I was never a Cocker aficionado but he once came out with a song I liked and bought. It had something to do with him leaving someone, I think. I was surprised it did not go big.
