Since talking about it on Morning Joe earlier today, a few people have asked me to expound on my theory regarding what Jeb Bush would have to do to overcome the many challenges he would face on his way to the Republican nomination.
It seems clear that Bush is hell-bent on not pandering to the base, so the obvious challenge he will have to overcome is winning a Republican primary while holding some positions (immigration reform, Common Core, etc.) which are anathema to the grassroots conservatives who will comprise a decent chunk of the primary electorate.
The way to overcome this is to do two things: First, he simply cannot lecture the base.
[Snip]
[T]he other side of the coin is that he cannot back down.

I'm not going to lecture to you Freepers ... and I'm not going to back down ... and you're going to support me just like you did other GOPe candidates such as McLame and Mittens ... and I'm going to be just as successful as they were!
He could change parties.
IF Jeb is the nominee, and, IF I vote at all, I will write in Ted Cruz.
John McCain
Mitt Romney
Jeb Bush
The GOP-e seems to like losing. They're certainly well acquainted with it.
Loser! Go way Jeb. I WIL NOT VOTE FOR YOU NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!
How could he win? Ted Cruz on the ticket. The “Palin” maneuver.
Still not enough to defeat the still thriving Bush derangement syndrome. I feel a touch coming on myself... PLUTOCRAT! BLUEBLOOD!...
Are we going to have to read this crap for the next two years??
Stay out da Booshies. Jebbie has zero chance of being dog catcher.
His main challenge is his last name. The one and only time I have agreed with the Rev. Jackson is when he said, “Stay out da Bushes.”
“Bob Dole
John McCain
Mitt Romney
Jeb Bush
The GOP-e seems to like losing.”
They win either way. Look at the CRomnibus bill.
It’s becoming more and more obvious that GOPe doesn’t want to “inherit” the mess the Kenyan is going to leave. They’re content with always being the bridesmaid.
Another Bushie telling us how great candidate Jeb will be.
Jebbie looks like an angry canned ham in the photo.
Matt Lewis is apparently all-in.
Bush - Christie!! Yeah...that’s the ticket!! BARF!!
Doing what the majority of your party members want is "pandering", while doing what the media and the opposing party wants is "big tent".
Nauseating.
Bush is being anointed for the Pubbies and they are going to do the same for Fauxcahontus
Why would we want a candidate that has to “thread the needle”? Are our issues so beyond the pale that Americans won’t accept them?
Fiscal policy:
Low/Lower Regulations and spending which lead to low/lower costs/taxes which lead to growth. Let competition and the market decide. Use the Commerce Clause to break the logjams and local monopolies imposed by state, county and local regulatory policies.
Social policy:
Stop killing babies with impunity. End perverse incentives for teen girls to get pregnant and drop out of school. Educational liberty via vouchers if necessary.
All rolled into one giant return to Constitutional limits on federal government.
That’s so radical that you can’t get a majority of American voters behind it?
