It's been 16 years since President Bill Clinton was impeached. Free Republic played a key role.
On October 31, 1998, Free Republic held the first online-organized national protest to call for Clinton's impeachment and removal from office. The rally was broadcast live on C-SPAN for over four hours. Speakers included a who's who of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.
The rally can be viewed in its entirety online at C-SPAN
As the Senate trial drew to a close in Feburary 1999, FReepers came together online to design and fund a full page ad in the Washington Times urging the Senate to do its Constitutional duty by convicting and removing Clinton for committing perjury and obstruction of justice in office.
Thanks to Varmint Al for hosting the ad online.

The GOP was urging patience “until after the election”.
Well, guess what?
We’re flat out of patience and chewing gum.
bttt
Bump that!
And sixteen years later, the GOP are terrified of the “I” word because it backfired last time, even though the nation is being gutted by an imposter as I type.
I was decorating the Christmas tree with my father, R.I.P., as we listened to the vote play out on the TV in the background. I was a little over two months shy of my 18th birthday. Five years later, I joined FR.
The rest, as they say, is history.
We've yet to do it.
Sadly, Andy Johnson, may he rot in hell, escaped removal by one vote.
Der Schlickmeister did rather better: 55/45 not guilty on the perjury charge, and split evenly on the obstruction charge.
And sixteen years later, the GOP are terrified of the I word because it backfired last time..
It wouldn’t have backfired if the spineless Republicans in the Senate had done their job!!!
The senators never even went in and looked at the evidence to remove from office.
I wish all representatives were under severe restriction to vote along the lines of their constituents and to take up study of anything 30% of their constituents vote to look into.
Back when Linda was likable.
He/she/it should have pushed harder to get that slime removed from office. But Gore would have been just as bad since he too hated America with all of his being.
I remember it, too. I was up feeding my newborn in the dark early morning (west coast time) and turned on the tv— astonished to find that I was witnessing history in the making.
That’s right. They didn’t want to see the evidence, which should have been made public in the senate chamber. It is another downside to the 17th Amendment; senators represent party interests, not state interests. Party loyalty trumps all. No rat senator will ever vote for impeachment of a rat prez. I forget which senator said he didn’t care if a witness found Bill Clinton standing over a dead body with smoking gun.
To celebrate this day, I’m going to take a cigar and....
FReepers figured out THIS GUY was a treasonous RINO at the time, then forgot about his actions during the Clinton impeachment and were brainwashed into believing he was "one of the good guys" for the next 14 years.
Fortunately, King seems to have returned to despised RINO status lately. Better late than never!
