She’s a mom on a mission. A single mother-of-two from the Los Angeles neighborhood of South Central recently went on strike against her employer McDonald’s. Maribel makes $9.35 per hour working as a server but that’s not enough to support her family (she shares a home with 10 other people including her children, grandmother, and niece). “I need fifteen to buy my babies diapers, their wipies, their clothes,” she explains. “Its hard with nine dollars per hour — you can’t do that. It’s really hard to pay rent.”
On December 4, Maribel, along with a large group seeking $15 per hour and union rights for fast food workers, picketed a McDonald’s location in downtown Los Angeles. “It’s really exciting going inside my own store,” she says before leading a group of chanting protesters inside. Maribel was not alone in her efforts — that day, fast food workers walked off the job in more then 150 cities across the country.

The cost of a Big Mac is almost the exact same as a "five guys" here. Made to order and you more fries that taste a heck of a lot better.
Everything but their value menu is grossly over-priced. For a few dollars more, I can sit down at a diner I frequent for a real burger and fries. Really quite tasty. The pie and coffee also rocks.

Look for the PTB (powers that be) at the corporate level to be actively looking at instituting greater numbers of self-order and self-pay kiosks. I know some casual restaurants have them. They make re-ordering drinks a breeze and paying the bill a snap. I would also hazard a guess that it makes it easier to have a smaller wait staff.

Yep McDs is planning some 2000 or so in the US in 2015. They have been doing this for
the last few years in Europe. They haven’t changed their basic ordering system in the
US since the 50s. Change or get left behind and their decling sales are an example.
I have heard they will streamline their menu.

They did that in mid Nov. by dropping some of the meal deals, raising prices on some
items, and eliminating items I believe. Example a senior drink/coffee went from 53 cents
to 75 cents. Taxes would change that price in other states.
McDonald’s does need to do something to slow down the rising prices of the vaguely edible food-like substances they sell. In the late 1980’s, a Big Mac combo would set you back about $3.25. What is it now? Somewhere between $6.00 and $7.00?

Bet she has long expensive extensions in her hair and long tacky finger nails with stupid designs on them. Get a education you dolt.
See if they quit they get no unemployment but if they force them to pay a wage increase they will lay most of these cretans off thereby making them eligible for unemployment. Getting unemployment is the goal
Plus, we are. By essentially quitting her job, she’ll have no income. She’ll get medicare, food stamps, and a host of other taxpayer-provided goodies.
They’ve basically eliminated the combo stuff and it’s up to the customer
to build their own meal. In other words order each item separate.
Apparently Maribel believes that McDonalds should pay each employee according to their need and receive from each employee according to their ability, no matter how disparate the two may be.
Maribel of course doesn’t understand that such a corporate policy as that would quickly bankrupt McDonalds, which would then be unable to pay employ her or anybody else and would be unable to pay anything at all. Maribel needs to move to one of the few remaining Communist countries in order to fulfill her dream.

Indeed. We have a local family-owned Chinese takeout joint where three delicious cartons of various chicken and vegetable dishes (plus rice, egg rolls, etc.) costs $28.00 with tax. We get at least five person meals from that, at a cost $5.60 each.
Wholesome and healthy and cheaper than a crappola garbage combo meal from McD`s.
