Sessions concedes to Enzi after Budget gavel tussle

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) on Wednesday afternoon conceded to Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) after a race to become the next chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.

Sessions, currently the panel’s ranking member, said he reached an agreement with his “good friend” Enzi.

“We have talked and I am deferring to his seniority so that he can lead the Budget Committee as its Chairman beginning in 2015,” Sessions said in a statement.

“Mike graciously deferred to me two years ago after he timed out on HELP as Ranking Member, and it has been my enormous privilege to serve as the panel’s Ranking Member these last four years, as well as to serve as the Judiciary Ranking Member for the two years before that,” Sessions added.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the self-proclaimed socialist, will be the new ranking member. He is a vocal advocate for increased spending on social programs and says the budget of the Pentagon should be dramatically slashed.

The Budget gavel was the last open seat remaining in the 114th Congress.

Sessions was slated to become chairman until Enzi decided to jump into the race. Enzi only has more seniority on the committee because of lots they both drew when they entered the Senate in 1997, giving him a technical advantage in the race. Both men joined the Budget Committee in 2003.

Since Congress has become a Legislature In Name Only, and its budget committee a Budget Committee in Name Only, why would anyone want to be chairman of it?

The Cromnibus, whose components were decreed by Emperor Obama and rubber-stamped by the majority of Congressmembers, is the law of the land.

If Jeff Sessions doesn’t like this new arrangement which makes him powerless to do anything to improve budget matters whether as chairman or not, he can work day and night to convince the newly elected Senate Republicans and enough of his current Republican Senate colleagues to vote for someone other than Mitch McConnell — maybe himself — for Senate Majority Leader when the new ‘’Congress’’ convenes next year.

But will he do that? Will he at least try to create a coalition which will demand that the vote for Senate Majority Leader be made public? Unfortunately, it’s more likely that Santa will come down the chimney on Christmas Eve than that Jeff Sessions or any other Republican Senator will go to the trouble of doing those things. No, Virginia, there is no Republican Senator that will actually work on behalf of this country.

Last open seat? Sessions has no committee chairmanship?
My God, McConnell and Boehner are both spiteful little bitches.

You need to go back and check. Enzi was supported by the RNC and the GOPe. But I do agree with you that “it was conservatives that stopped Cheney”. And I suspect many of us are not going to be happy with the results we get from that “success”. However, McConnell is certainly tickled pink.

We should not have an intramural battle on this, it’s a done deal. I’m just licking my wounds from Sessions not becoming Chair of the Budget Committee. My hope is that he’ll have at least some influence getting other members to put some breaks on spending, but I’m not betting the ranch on that happening given the expected makeup of the committee.

So you agree that we conservatives stopped Liz, but you should recognize post 39 as my own, I’m not aware of the RNC ever using any of my objections, much less that post 39 is taken directly from their “talking points”.

I never heard anyone pick up on what her real mission was, as I described in that post.

Post 39 was informative and from research, not taken from any “talking points”.

That’s fine Ansell, I’ll give you credit for taking down Enzi’s challenger. Now time will tell how well Enzi will serve constitutional conservatism from his new position of power.

Man you are full of it, just quit BSing and even lying.

This isn’t about how good or bad Enzi is, but that stopping Liz Cheney became more important.

You can’t even keep yourself strainght from post to post.

But you did switch to this in post 50, “But I do agree with you that “it was conservatives that stopped Cheney”.”

It was the eternal, lesser of two evils political situation.

With Corker and Graham on the committee they may as well make Reid the chairman. Those two concern me the most. We know they do DEMs deeds.

Clearing the decks of the TEA party. We’ll return the favor when President Cruz takes office.

The GOP party rulership just made any chance of Cruz or ANY Conservative making it through the 2016 primary on the GOP ticket - an impossibility.

The Ruling Class have rendered Conservatism politically irrelevant.

But keep dreaming. Reality is about to be a shock most will not be able to deal with.

You’d like that wouldn’t you?

Make the job for the Imperial Fascist oligarchy we now have ruling us much easier without ‘malcontents’ like me showcasing reality.

As long as those infected with Normalcy Bias and cognitive dissonance insist on playing in a rigged sandbox, they are never going to have a chance to overcome the bullies who run the sandbox playing by their rigged rules.

But you are free to continue to lie to yourself and wish on unicorns. I’m already way ahead of you in terms of surviving what is coming.
