WASHINGTON (AP) -- Russia's suddenly escalating financial crisis risks spilling beyond its borders and endangering parts of the global economy.
With economies in Europe, Japan, China and Latin America already ailing, fresh threats have emerged from Russia's shriveled currency, its move to dramatically boost interest rates, the damage from plummeting oil prices and Western sanctions over Russia's action in Ukraine.
The alarming 10 percent drop in the ruble over the past two days has amplified the economic turmoil in Russia. Investors fear that Russia may default on its foreign debt obligations - a move that would inflict hundreds of billions in losses on lenders abroad.

A lesson in cutting off your nose to spite your face — see all involved parties.
Yup. To quote Hans Solo: “I have a bad feeling about this.”
Russia is feeling very threatened. Countries have gone to war over lesser provocations.
by election time in 2016 the USA and world will be in a full depression (mark my words you heard it here first). This will allow Republicans to finally capture a super majority in Congress which will allow something to finally be done about this huge government and tyranny
I guess Obama can just print up some more money in the White House basement to fund his favorite conflicts. He needs to save the rising debt numbers for his domestic socialist agenda.
To do what? The boldly push the liberal Obama agenda like they have done the last 6 years?
the congress hasn’t taken power yet. you democrats controlled the senate.
the congress hasn’t taken power yet. you democrats controlled the senate and the presidency and the media. Republicans just had a few more Republicans in the House than Democrats. and so you blame everything on Republicans . no blame the media and the big eared bozo called Obama
Okay, I’ll mark your words ... but it’s not likely on either count - the depression or the GOP.
Maybe a good time to be in Bonds.
I’ve said this before. Our policies and sanctions have pushed others into war, and this will push Russia into war. The question is, how many will die from this next war?
Regarding Obama’s accumulated debt, light as we all know travels 186,000 miles or about 7.5 times around the earth in once second. You’d have to let that light go for a year to accumulate six trillion miles, and we are fast approaching three of those. It’s such an obscenely large number it’s hard to comprehend.
Whether we believe it to be true or not - Russians believe the West, lead by the USA, are waging economic warfare on them.
to think they will fold quickly is a fantasy.
Putin could embargo Russia’s ~~ 8 million barrels per day of oil, and embargo Russia’s exports of 1/3 of Europe’s natural gas.
Overnight Russia would replace Saudi Arabia as OPEC’s price-setting power-broker.
BS. Russia’s economy is the size of Italy’s economy.
Tea leaves looking mighty dangerous in the next couple years.....
Here is the CIA’s economic rankings.
