Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday strongly disputed claims by former Bush administration officials and fellow Republicans that harsh interrogation tactics used by the Central Intelligence Agency did not constitute torture.
McCain said he had vigorous discussion with former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Central Intelligence Agency Director Michael Hayden during the Bush administration urging them not to use excruciating methods.
I said these things are torture. Theyre in violation of the Geneva Convention and the convention against torture, he said on CBSs Face the Nation, noting that Congress later banned some of the techniques that were under debate.

The guy is a loon! AZ needs to find a replacement.
Someone show McCain photos of 9/11
Oh that’s right he was helping to give weapons to the terrorists on the other 9/11/12 and continues trying to give weapons to them and have the United States bomb the terrorist enemies.
Yeah, I know, he was subject to real torture at the Hanoi Hilton, so he claims. I don't believe it and neither do some of his fellow POW's.
McCain should sell his brain to a fertilizer company.
No there not. The Geneva Convention says that if a soldier identifies with a country, wears a uniform and identification (tags) then the are covered by the convention otherwise THEY ARE NOT.
Terrorists are deliberately NOT COVERED BY THE CONVENTION in order to SUPPRESS TERRORISM.
I think the wounds to his arms prove that he was tortured. I don’t agree with him, but he isn’t a liar.
Not as bad of torture as hearing McCain
Using tear gas is also against the Geneva Convention, yet you’re shockingly silent when it is used against crowds around the world. However, the Geneva Convention is the terms of how a war shall be conducted, and how soldiers are treated. Terrorists are not soldiers, Mr. McCain. Just like civilians in the streets, the Geneva Convention doesn’t apply.
Anyone have a list of the treatment McCain, Stockdale & company received in Hanoi.
Compare that to the “torture” under discussion.
Don’t even get me started on ISIS.
Being subjected to the prattling of McCain is torture.
FUJM
Yeah, so was the spanking I got as a kid.
Shaddup.
This idiot is a loon, was a loon and 24/7 a moron of the highest caliber. Is it the desert heat that makes GOP voters keep voting for this senile imbecile?
Do you know for fact the wounds weren't caused by his plane crash? I don't know, but if not, that would be real torture and not the PC crap I mentioned above.
Plus, I do believe him to be a liar or at the least, a spinner/parser. He's a politician and has been a McPain in our bottom for way too long.
Remember, our esteemed SOS Kerry claimed to be in Cambodia on Christmas that was proven negative by the Swift Boat Veterans. Plus, he got out of Nam and Purple Heart for scratches. I don't believe a word from career politicians. I'm waiting for Ted Cruz to flip-flop.
Lighten up Johnny.
Why is everything suddenly upside down after Novs election?
..In fact, Qatars friends comprise a veritable Whos Who of the American (and even international) establishment. During the month of October, the Qatar Awareness Campaign, an ad hoc Coalition of concerned journalists, activists, publishers, and researchers published a letter each weekday, identifying American interests and individuals compromised by Qatari money and/or who toe the Qatari line.
Many of the figures named might surprise you: Michael Bloomberg, ExxonMobil, Al Gore, ****John McCain****, The Boeing Company, Miramax, the Chamber of Commerce, CNN, Harvard University, Bill and Hillary Clinton, FIFA, to name just a few.
Is the American media and Political Class finally Waking Up to the threat of Qatar?

Senator McCain seems unable to differentiate between the very real physical torture that he endured, which left permanent physical impairment, and the psychological treatment of the captured Islamic jihadist militants, who did NOT suffer lasting physical harm.
These are people who do not respond to sweet reason and charm, once their confidence is gained. They are hardened, far beyond any early experience of John McCain, and conditioned to believe it is some kind of honor to deceive their captors, a point of view which with I am sure the Senator may identify.
But the fact that John McCain may identify with the prisoners, does not mean that they necessarily identify with HIM. And what happened to McCain was so much more brutal and unrelenting than what happened to the Islamic jihadist militants, there is no parallel.
I don’t think he is talking aobut sleep deprivation and loud music bud...........
Rand Paul: GOP Should Reject Cheney for Defending “Torture”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said the government should be more transparent and have a moral stance against torture. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), himself a victim of torture while a prisoner of war, supported the report’s release and criticized the CIA’s practices as having “damaged our security interests.”

“The Republicans and the Democrats at high levels supported and at least knew that Bush had given these orders to allow torture to occur,” Paul said in an interview with Antiwar.com in May 2009, months before he launched his bid for Senate. “My guess is that the leaders of all the intelligence committees, as well as the congressional leaders on both sides, knew very well of all the things that were going on.” Paul added that “all the leaders, both the Republicans and Democrats, are complicit in just about everything that happened.”
