Nineteen people were hospitalized early Sunday after an intentional chlorine leak at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare during the 2014 Midwest FurFest, public safety officials said.

The leak, reported about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, caused a complete evacuation of the hotel at 9300 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue. The hotel was hosting the Midwest FurFest convention. Attendees dress up like furry animals and celebrate art, literature and performance based on anthropomorphic animals, according to the convention's website.

sounds like a chlorate compound, this is a person with some chemistry knowledge. That’s not good.

if attending these things, said person is already very “off” so to speak.

“Add bleach with ammonnia, and PRESTO..!”

Did that as a stupid young guy trying to clean a bathtub once. Barely made it out of the room.

Probably calcium hypochlorite.

Calcium hypochlorite also known as chlorine powder or bleach powder[1] is a chemical compound with formula Ca(ClO)2. It is widely used for water treatment and as a bleaching agent. This chemical is considered to be relatively stable and has greater available chlorine than sodium hypochlorite (liquid bleach).

No, they're normal people with an unusual hobby. One of my friends goes to furrycons. Probably no different from fans at science fiction conventions wearing costumes representing their favorite characters.

That mixture works well on yellow jackets. Wear mask, pour into their nest separately and get the h377 out of there in a hurry. Come back a few hours later to dispose of the dead yellow jacket nest.

Just another day at the Sunnyvale Trailer Park.

That was just about the creepiest thing I ever saw as a child and even then I wasn’t sure of what I saw.

That’s really creepy.

At least one knows whether or not doggy-style is on the menu when pursuing a date for the night...

Actually, that may be the show I was remembering most. I watch so little TV that such things are only esoteric/remote memories.
