Another Obama/Carter parallel?

At least he was probably shot instead of having his head sawed off.

I’m guessing, but I wonder if this was a mission they dreaded having to risk but had to, because they assumed it was better than nothing since he was going to die anyway.

They had already tried a mission a few weeks ago and the bad guys might have been too prepared for there to be much of a chance of him coming out alive, I hope that the rescuers didn’t suffer casualties.

Perhaps, or maybe it was a drone strike mishap? See: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/12/06/drone-kills-alleged-al-qaeda-members-official-says/?intcmp=latestnews

R.I.P. to yet another victim of terrorism.

For goodness sake why can't President Obama get anything right? He is an utter failure.
My bet is that he sent our Special Forces with insufficient equipment and insufficient preparation time and resources for mission.

Oh!

I would prefer that to a failed mission, and I hope that isn’t misunderstood.

Unfortunately it looks unlikely to be a drone strike.

“A joint military operation to free American hostage Luke Somers has taken place in Yemen Saturday, local officials said - but the status of the 33-year-old was not immediately clear. The operation took place in Shabwa province, a Yemen interior ministry official told NBC News, adding that 10 militants were killed.”

Very sad. Hopefully some terrorists died (horribly) in the process.

Was Luke Somers a photographer for the US military, the State Dept. or some other federal agency?

I guess maybe we will find out how it happened over the next few days...I just know that Obama has a thing for drone strikes, so an “Oops, we took out 9 Al-Qaeda and 1 friendly” could have very well happened. Plus with his mentality he would be adverse to another failed SF mission (too many Jimmy Carter comparisons would be coming his way).

White House: We Didn’t Delay Secret Somers Rescue Operation

http://abcnews.go.com/International/white-house-delay-secret-somers-rescue-operation/story?id=27399331

The White House doubled down today to bat back the idea that dithering at the highest levels delayed an ultimately unsuccessful military operation to rescue American al Qaeda hostage Luke Somers in Yemen last week.

“There are still some significant limits to what I can say about what is still a classified operation, but I would reject in the strongest possible terms that there was any delay at the White House in approving his mission,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.

We don’t know that Special forces conducted the previous raid, it may have been SEALs, or even the fairly new (a few years old), Marine Special Operations unit.

Freelance photojournalist for the “Yemen Times” says this article: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/dec/4/wh-failed-secret-mission-rescue-american-al-qaeda/

The above article also implies that he was still alive after failed rescue attempt last month. A 2nd rescue mission??

I believe that is what we are talking about, that there was a failed mission weeks ago, and that now he has died in a new rescue attempt.
