A lawyer for the University of Virginia fraternity whose members were accused of a brutal gang rape said Friday that the organization will release a statement rebutting the claims printed in a Rolling Stone article about the incident. Several of the womans close friends and campus sex assault awareness advocates said that they also doubt the published account.
Officials close to the fraternity said that the statement will indicate that Phi Kappa Psi did not host a party on Sept. 28, 2012, the night that a university student named Jackie alleges she was invited to a date party, lured into an upstairs room and was then ambushed and gang-raped by seven men who were rushing the fraternity.

Will Dana, Rolling Stones managing editor, also released a statement with new doubt. In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in Jackies account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced, he said in a statement.
More and more looking like Duke Lacrosse Rape Case II.
According to that nutcase Amanda Marcotte Washington Post is engaging in Holocaust Denial.
When I first saw this story I found it horrifying - but also found it hard to believe. If it turns out to be a hoax, this will be a huge black eye to Rolling Stone and the Left.
Too freaking lazy and stupid to even get that basic fact right?
Looks like it was a hoax. http://t.co/lPO6z5DfYa
Nothing gets in the way of The Agenda, facts be damned.
Agreed. You’d think they’d actually ask a few questions prior to publishing.

Someone needs to sue for libel.
Nah, they have already set up the “ends justifies the means” defense.
The story is falling apart fast. Even her friends now know it doesn’t make sense:
“Earlier this week, Jackie revealed to friends for the first time the full name of her alleged attacker, a name she had never disclosed to anyone. But after looking into that persons background, the group that had been among her closest supporters quickly began to raise suspicions about her account. The friends determined that the student that Jackie had named was not a member of Phi Kappa Psi and that other details about his background did not match up with information Jackie had disclosed earlier about her perpetrator.”
Story is falling apart faster than a cardboard suitcase in a monsoon.
This feels like a betrayal of good advocacy if this is not true, Renda said. We teach people to believe the victims. We know there are false reports but those are extraordinarily low.
I don’t think they are necessarily “extraordinarily low.”
That really is the kiss of death.
I commented on the original story that it was all but word for word from a TV show script from the 80s, and very similar to another show and a movie about that time.
The woman needs to be prosecuted and imprisoned if found guilty.
Well, they're higher now by one at least, aren't they? I'd like to know if the speaker has any credible figures on the rate of falsehood, or if she's making that up the same way the accuser made her story up.
"Consciousness-raising" fakery does nothing but inject a toxic dose of mistrust into the issue. The activists aren't helping by saying it doesn't matter.
Wasn’t the Fraternity disbanded and expelled from campus? Is it to be reinstated? Not just one person was slandered but the entire Fraternity. Someone should be out a lot of money. I would think a magazine would has a lot more money than a collage student.
She should be thrown in jail. Rolling Stone should be sued for more than they have.
And get ready to learn a new female affliction.
“False Memory Syndrome”
It has been around for a while, and will, undoubtedly, get dusted off for her defense.
I don’t think the Fraternity was disbanded but the Pres of UVA did put a halt to all Greek activity until the New Year.
