Elizabeth Lauten did something dopey. Say again, dopey. Criticizing President Obamas children daughters sixteen and thirteen was dopey. Presidential children, particularly minor children, are generally considered to be off limits. Ms. Lauten, the communications director for Tennessee Congressman Stephen Lee Fincher, took a social media poke at the two and is today jobless as a result.
There is a lesson in this for young conservatives. This is how the Left operates. What Lauten did, as mentioned, was dopey. Silly. But a front-page piece in the Washington Post? Breathless firestorm coverage from ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, USA Today, Politico, the Huffington Post, and on and on through the roster? Well, no. Did she have to resign her job? Of course not. Suspended or disciplined in some fashion? Yes. But allow the firestorm to consume her career? No.
Yet those two things have come to pass. So what is the lesson for young conservatives?
The lesson is that the true colors of the American Left never change...................

Re: “This is how the Left operates.”
No!
This is how the spineless, unprincipled, incoherent GOP leadership operates.
I’d hate to be the daughters after Obama leaves office. They will have successful careers...just like Amy Carter.
Yes—I remember with great fondness the hands-off approach the media took with Barbara and Jenna Bush.
Why can’t we return to those carefree days?

The number one rule for conservatives: Never apologize for something that is true.
Learn common sense.
There’s no upside to her comments. They couldn’t help her. Only hurt her.
It wasn’t dopey.
It was stupid.
Should not have cost her job.
She apparently works for a spineless republican congressman. If she worked for me, she wouldn’t have been fired or forced to resign and I would have defended her by saying she has a first amendment right to say what she wants to say. End of story. Hard to blame the kids though when they were spawned by trashy parents.
I just don't get why anyone would post anything of their opinions on Facebook. If she didn't know that, she shouldn't be a Communications Director.
J. Lord makes that point at the end of his article.
The Democrats and the Left have trained the GOP to kneejerk reactions to perfection now.
Her boss should have defended her right to say what she wanted to say as it was on her time, not his.
You would never see a Dem staffer forced to resign over a nothingburger like this.
Rather, they would be promoted for scoring one for the team.
Joe Biden, of course, can make fun of Indian Americans and it's all fine. Obama can make fun of Boehner's skin color. Imagine the uproar if a Republican made fun of a Democrat's skin color.
“The issue is never the issue. The issue is the revolution.”
