A New York City grand jury has declined to indict an NYPD officer in the chokehold case of Eric Garner, the unarmed man who died while being arrested on Staten Island earlier this year.
In opting not to indict, the panel determined there was not probable cause that a crime was committed by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was seen on a widely watched amateur video showing him wrapping his arm around Garner's neck as Garner yelled, "I can't breathe!" during the summer altercation.

Homicide simply means death at the hands of another....as suicide means death by ones own hand. It doesn’t indicate culpability. The jury obviously found that the cops had not knowingly done anything that would provoke his death, and were simply trying to restrain him when he resisted arrest, not “putting him in achokehold” (which is capable of causing death by crushing the windpite). He had heart problems and asthma, but they can’t do a medical exame before they arrest somebody.
As for why he was arrested, the neighbors on the street had complained about the illegal cigarette selling because it attracted lowlifes, including lots of hoodie teenagers, and also because some of the cigarette sellers were also selling drugs. This was Garner’s second arrest for the same thing, but even so, it was a misdemeanor and it’s not clear why he became so upset about it. I think he had some drug sales activity in his background, IIRC.
THis afternoon, 4 cops in Denver were mowed down by a driver while they were escorting a Ferguson “protest” that was coming out of a high school. It seems to have been an accident, and the driver is thought to have had a seizure and just shot forward. Two of the cops were slightly injured, one is in serious condition, and one was crushed under the car and is in critical condition. And guess what...the high school students they were escorting (for their safety) cheered when the driver ran over the cops.

Gee are 4/5 thugs in blue piling on a guy who then can’t move enough force? Or go ahead and keep using a choke hold and have the whole dept jump on the guy like it’s NFL night?
That’s a blatant choke hold, anyone who says different needs a retinal exam. Anyone do any brainwork and ponder the weight of 4/5 guys on subject and a chokehold may affect breathing?
The issue is and will continue to be excessive use of force. Submission and kneel before the boot or else. Unfortunately, most cops being lazy and stupid, they get very brave in large numbers facing one lone individual. Video footage of police brutality and excessive force repeatedly show the bully syndrome goes full on with numbers. Reverse it, for example large numbers of people more aggressive in defense of this man, and cops wouldn’t have even attempted an arrest.
Hard to second guess. A taser might have worked, but this guy obviously had heart problems. Would it have been any better if a taser would have ignited a heart attack?
Probably not. This was just one of those things that happened.
It all could have been avoided had this guy just surrendered to his arrest and then called an attorney.
I do doubt this cop wanted this guy to die.
This cop did not choke him to death. This rhetoric sounds like echoes of Ferguson.

Oh please, murder? hardly. To prove murder you have to have proof of prior planning, even if it is a minute or two before, that the intent by this cop was to kill this guy.
The kind of rhetoric you are using is over the top.
It's a partial video. No one knows what was going on before the recording, or after. The jurors who decided not to indict know a heck of a lot more than we do.
Remember, things are not always the way the media reports them. Things may not be at all what they seem.
Unless all the facts are released (which probably won't be because they don't fit De blasios narrative), I'm siding with the jury.
(Remember how the media replayed the 911 call during the martin thing? They deliberately left out the race question asked by the 911 operator, and made the recording sound like zimmerman didn't like martin simply because he was a black man.)

I know somebody with DPD. It’s just not being reported.
And no reason to think they won't do the same thing with a po-po body cam video on the Nightly News.
This lesson here is if being arrested or detailed don’t resist.
I knew this would happen. The emphasis on the "choke hold" was bogus and a perfect excuse for the D.A. to protect a L.E. brother and leave the onus on the jurors. Garner died because he was dog piled by a pack of thugs. And he easily could have been saved. They should all have been charged with something. Instead, everybody walks.

And if anyone takes to the comments section of articles with “Pants up, don’t loot” or “the guy deserved it” or snarky comments, they are falling into the trap and giving validation to the defenders of Mike Brown.
Which is a damn shame.
The cops I know actually want body cams, because they’d get a lot more convictions. Already, there’s an anarchist group that’s suing to stop the department from using them.
The problem is that most departments can’t afford them. The cameras don’t cost much, but the recordings have got to be stored for years, and digital data storage is very expensive.
