Did President Obama change the law or not when he unilaterally decided that millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. would be protected against deportation?
Until this week, both the president and White House staff insisted that Obama did not change the law and indeed could not change the law without the cooperation of Congress. Obama's move was just a revision of executive branch enforcement priorities, according to the official White House line. A Justice Department memo backed up the president's contention.
"This notion that somehow I can just change the laws unilaterally is just not true," Obama said at a Hispanic Roundtable meeting in the White House in 2011. "We are doing everything we can administratively." Obama said similar things several times since then, and on Nov. 18, just two days before Obama announced his action, White House spokesman Josh Earnest pointed to the "large number of cases in which the president has said, 'I'm not an emperor, I'm not a king, and I can't change the law.' Who is going to do anything about it?
A dictator is not bound by a constitution. He IS the law.
A dictator’s gotta be a dick...
why would anyone expect the current repub leadership to do anything? they already telegraphed b/f the elections they wouldn’t do anything.
In the final analysis, Obama didn’t really change the law, ‘cause, like he said, he can’t do that. He just ‘took action’ to change the law...
Big difference! (somewhere...)
Those previous statements were supposed to go down the memory hole. What is the matter with you people?
I wouldn’tbe surprised if he issued an EO changing the Constitution. Not that he needs to do it since he can just ignore the Constitution.
I don’t. I learned my lesson early. When I voted for George Bush in 2000, I expected that he would prosecute the members of the Clinton cartel for their violations of the law[s]. When that did not happen, I got the message, to wit] do not expect anything from the Republican Party and you won’t be disappointed.
Why not? I don’t see anyone stopping or challenging him.
It is one thing to not enforce the law but to change it’s meaning and reach is changing it - can what he has done be undone? If not then he really has changed the law. If it can then Republicans could re-prioritize if they ever get elected and deport all those illegally in your country - not that I believe they would for one minute.

Impeach. Remove from office. Arrest. Convict. Imprison for life.
so changing the Term Limit for President will be no trouble
It’s in the Constitution - only the House of Representatives can originate a law.
Obama admits he made a new law.
Total and conclusive evidence of an impeachable offense.
