A St. Louis County grand jury has declined to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the case of the shooting death of Michael Brown, USA Today reported Monday evening, quoting Michael Brown's family.
The grand jury's decision was announced by prosecutors Monday evening after weeks of speculation about how they would act on the case.
Missouri officials called for calm Monday in advance of the announcement. The officer's fatal shooting of an unarmed black teen in August had touched off weeks of sometimes violent protests.
The announcement was being made at the courthouse in the St. Louis County seat of Clayton, part of the sprawling St. Louis suburbs.
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon urged in advance that "regardless of the decision, people on all sides show tolerance, mutual respect and restraint."
The unusual timing of the grand jury's announcement, after darkness had fallen, was a decision of prosecutors, Nixon said.
He said several local churches would provide shelter, safe haven and medical care in the event of unrest.
St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley also called for calm in an evening news conference. "This is not the time to turn on each other; it is a time to turn to each other. We are one community," he said.
St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay acknowledged the case "has deeply divided us" but said "turning violent or damaging property will not be tolerated."
"The world will be watching us," Slay said.
Police have said Brown struggled with Wilson inside his police car, then reached for Wilson's weapon. Brown's family and some witnesses say Wilson killed Brown as he raised his hands in surrender.
Craft beers.
We all knew this, right?
"Let dem touch dose tings for once."
Cool.
And now comes the retarded questions from “the press”.
Interesting presser. The prosecutor has taken a few pot shots at the media.
Michael Brown’s family is “profoundly disappointed” that their child’s killer will not “face consequences”. Well, that’s what happens when you raise a little thug who robs convenience stores and confronts law enforcement like he’s 10 feet tall and bullet proof.
These have got to be the dumbest questions. He clearly laid out the facts, and yet the dumbass “press” is making statements to basically fire up protesters and still deliver the mantra that Michael Brown is just a poor innocent kid. UGH!! I HATE THE MEDIA!
You are right. I am losing my mind listing to these conclusions and then a question.
yes, what a bunch of Marxist retards, I almost cant stand to watch it.
Bunch of pansy-asses have no balls to admit they are the "others".
The right decision. Good for them.
“people on all sides show tolerance”
I’m trying to figure out what the side other than the protesters could do that is not tolerant.
Totally agree. Some real weenies in that media clatch tonight; some of whom have no ears except for what they want to hear.
Fox News Obama will speak at 10PM ET. More of I Ahhh ummm. Hopefully it is not a call to arms to riot!
Bunch of brain dead hacks looking for an opportunity to make a name for themselves.
RE: We all knew this, right?
If the evidence as reported so far reflected what really happened, here is what I understand how it occurred:
1) Michael Brown and partner were waling in the middle of the road.
2) Office Wilson sees them and tells them to get off the street to the side walk.
3) Brown refuses and argues with the officer, who drives to their side and tells them to listen to him, opening the window of his patrol car, Brown refuses.
A fight ensues with Brown punching Officer Wilson on the eye socket and reaching into the car to grab his gun. Office Wilson is dazed but manages to prevent Brown from grabbing the gun.
4) Brown tries to run away. Wilson gets out of the car and shouts at him ordering him to freeze.
5) Brown turns around with hands up as if daring him: “You want to shoot me? Go ahead and try !”, Brown then bum rushes Wilson with full force.
6) Wilson shoots him to stop, first to the non-lethal parts of his body, but Brown kept coming.
Finally Wilson shot him fatally in the head.
We also know that Brown and partner just robbed a convenience store not long before this incident occurred and was discovered to have traces of drugs in him.
So, based on the above evidence, if true, then we all knew this would be the verdict. It can’t be otherwise if justice is to be done.
Unfortunately Brown had to die. If the Missouri police had an electric shock gun like they have in NYC, Brown might be still alive.
After watching the press conference I am thoroughly convinced that in order to be a “ journalist” today, you have to take a class in STUPID.
Maybe it’s too cold to riot.
