SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Ten years after banning the use of firing squads in state executions, Utah lawmakers on Wednesday endorsed a proposal to allow the practice again to avoid problems with lethal-injection drugs.
The proposal from Republican Rep. Paul Ray of Clearfield would call for a firing squad if the state cannot obtain the lethal injection drugs 30 days before the scheduled execution.
Utah dropped firing squads out of concern about the media attention, but Ray said it's the most humane way to execute someone because the inmate dies instantly.

I really don’t care if the condemned feels pain during the execution.
As long is it is not pain for the sake of pain, but the pain of death is perfectly acceptable.
I’ll say one thing, it’s a lot faster than those lethal injection things.
Bringing back the firing squad for regular executions is fine, as it goes...
But would be fantastic to bring back hangings for treason.
Capitol cases should ALL be on a case by case basis.
Making excuses for a whole group based soley on age is as stupid as 3 strikes laws that send people to prison for stealing a candy bar.
In the end, it should be up to the states. I don’t believe capitol punishment is a deterence, but I could care less. I think it’s about retribution and that’s fine by me.
It is also a matter of religion in Utah. Mormon doctrine still supports that certain sins are not covered by the Blood of Christ and must be atoned for with your own blood. (Yes, I can source this using LDS sources and it is current teaching).
Look up Gary Gilmore execution 1977. It broke the logjam against executions by the Earl Warren Supreme Court. There had not been an execution in the U.S. since in 1962 of Caryl Chessman.
Of course, the execution was carried out only because Gilmore waived any further stays & sought his own death.

Wait just a darned minute there. What is the metal composition of those bullets? Are they bad for the environment? Will the noise of the firing squad be harmful to the other inmates mental well being? Has there been a study (by a liberal university of course) on the overall effects and unintended consequences of this action/

Yes but then, those needles can cause a nasty infection. And I bet that needle ends up in the landfill. Im pretty sure they re-use the butt plug though. /sarc
I remember reading a magazine article about Gilmore a year or so after he was executed. Boy, were he and his girlfriend big time losers!

I think that I would choose a firing squad, if I was in that situation and had a choice. I am almost certain of it.
