Happened a couple of years ago, too. Can't really gauge the distance from the center to the earth. I mean look at the occasional huge moon. Looks so close but really...it's way out there. Just trying to compare it with something.
We don't see it hit...because it's over the horizon. Does that make any sense? Of course it does.
