In fact, its hard to see who else you could have hired. Modeling health reform is a very detail-driven business: you need a detailed statistical representation of the population, together with detailed estimates of behavioral responses to incentives. Gruber has spent years developing such a model, which is maintained and update at considerable expense. Who else could bring the same resources to bear? Well, I guess the administration could have turned to the Lewin Group, but aside from the fact that Gruber has such sterling academic credentials, Lewin is owned by United Healthcare.
In other words, Gruber is a real authority, and the obvious person to fill a needed role. As Ive written before, he should have taken more pains to reveal that role. But there was nothing corrupt about the arrangement.

Convoluted argument defending Gruber for taking consultant fees when criticized by leftists for doing so back in 2010. Birds of a feather stick together.

This was 2010, I just wanted to see what Krugman had said about him back at the time; after all, everybody reads Krugman. even Pelosi.

Gruber has spent years developing such a model...
Today's marxist democrat party is making the same mistakes the Soviet Union did, and that was thinking that the whole economy could be operated from one office in the Kremin by twiddling various dials... which it cannot. The millions of invisible hands and self-interest built in to the free market is a living breathing organism, not a fake mock-up using some socialist "academic's" hypothetical "model".

When Krugman states “Obama is one of the most successful presidents in American history” how could any one respect or gives serious credence to his opinion?

Hey, we could have just followed the British model and saved all that trouble and expense. Except that most people would like to see a real doctor when they get sick.
