Texas Governor-Elect Greg Abbott is in the process of preparing to start his new job next year. And it appears as if he will have a lot on his plate.
Abbott joined Houstons Morning News with KTRHs Matt Patrick this morning to talk about a wide variety of issues.
Abbott soundly beat Democrat Wendy Davis in last weeks election, using border security as one of his main issues. President Obama is reportedly going to announce Executive Action on immigration next week, and Abbott told KTRH he is ready for whatever that action is.
One thing we can do is legislation. The other is litigation, Abbott told Patrick.
Does Texas have the legal standing to file this kind of lawsuit?
I think we do. Texas faces direct financial consequences because of what we consider to be a lawless decision on the part of the President, Abbott explained.
Another issue facing the incoming Governor is the one involving open carry in Texas. Abbott supports it, and there will be a choice for lawmakers to make between open carry and Constitutional carry.
There will be robust debate between the two. I will sign whichever bill comes to my desk, Abbott stated.
Another proposed bill for next years legislative session in Austin would be a proposal to raise the states minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. Abbott told Houstons Morning News that effort would not be one hed get behind.
When you increase minimum wage it causes the price of goods to go up. That causes inflation. Its more of a phantom pay increase. Even though your pay goes up, buying power goes down, Abbott explained.
Abbott will be taking over for Governor Rick Perry, who will leave the job after three terms, and is considering a second run for President in 2016.
The Obama appointed judge (Senor Garcia) says that our immigration law is racist.
So Obama can open the border.
Have a nice day. :)
It is too early to tell for sure, but Greg Abbott is looking like he may be a really good governor. He did a great job as attorney general.
Why is open carry pushed? Texas has good licensed conceal law. If open carry has to do with transport of a firearm openly (pickup gun rack etc.) I guess I can see that in rural areas.. But walking around with a holstered visible pistol in Houston etc. seems a little unnecessary and over the top.
Proactive. Leaning forward. Good on him...
Good, he should
Abbott needs to leave the economic arguments for later and stick with the illegal problem. No need for a minimum wage, but next time .gov wants to increases their wages I hope he will come out and use his 'inflation' argument against such a increase. Phantom pay and all.
There are so many grounds that Obama’s action is illegal, even treasonous, and for the states to refuse to obey. This invades a state’s treasury. It skews state elections. It harms actual citizens. All contrary to federal and state law, to the oath of office of a President, and to the Constitutional separation of powers. If there is not standing and a cause of action for the states to stop this, then there is no grounds for anyone to question the federal government about anything, and we have officially entered into a new form of governance. It was already post-constitutional; now it is a tyranny headed by a fuehrer, a one-man absolute despot.
Texans not what they used to be, I guess you need those illegals to infuse some testosterone back into the culture.
Agreed!
Still waiting for that Boehner lawsuit too
“walking around with a holstered visible pistol in Houston etc. seems a little unnecessary and over the top.”
I haven’t been to Houston in about 10 years, but I’d have been grateful to be able to have had my pistol on me, in plain view when I was there.
During hunting season, carrying long guns in racks in a truck/SUV is common, and always has been-I do it myself when I hunt-this is a rural area, but it goes on in the cities, too. No one even notices that.
Every Red State Governor needs to sign on to this
/double echo

BRAVO!!
Well worded and so true it needs to be repeated!
Shall not be infringed. What’s not to understand. Never, ever give the left an inch
Texas’ gun laws are middle of the pack.
It is one of only six states that bans the open carry of modern handguns from most public areas.
It is an old law imposed by the carpetbagger government and needs to go.
Other than showing that people are ashamed of the right to keep and bear arms, what is the point of banning open carry?
Police do it all the time, as do secuity guards. But somehow, that makes it ok.
yes , go Abot
Could be because our constitutional right to keep and BEAR arms is God given, and not subject to infringement by any government of men.
Just a guess.
