Appearing on Glenn Beck‘s radio show this past week, Dr. Benjamin Carson took a vastly different stance from most conservatives on the issue of gun control, claiming you shouldn’t be able to own semi-automatic weapons in large cities.
Carson became a newfound conservative hero last month when he spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast and laid out a series of criticisms of ObamaCare, political correctness, and tax policy right in front of the president himself. Many called the speech “inappropriate” given the apolitical nature of the event, but many conservatives lauded Carson for his “bold” and “sensible” suggestions for policy reform.
Asked by Beck for his thoughts on the Second Amendment, Carson gave the popular pro-gun argument: “There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons.”
But when asked whether people should be allowed to own “semi-automatic weapons,” the doctor replied: “It depends on where you live.”
“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated.
However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”

Well, I can cross him off the list.
Good point. Snipers can do a LOT of damage with a bolt action rifle.
NEXT!
Yep, I had a humorous conversation with an idealistic young libinlaw.
Similarly, the term “semi-automatics” came up and I asked him to tell me what that meant. He got a blank look on his face and, surprise surprise, actually admitted that he didn’t know.
I explained. Didn’t change his mind about gun ownership, just kept him from using the scare word in the conversation.
This is exactly why I think Ben Carson should run for mayor of Detroit. He would have no impact on gun laws and would have a first hand look at why the absolute right to carry is good.
Open/concealed carry, stand your ground laws, and an effective police chief are driving the crime rate down in spectacular fashion.
Those who were paying attention already knew this.
Do not want.
Buh-bye
This a-hole is NO conservative.
“Well thats that. Whos next?”
Couldn’t have said it better.
I really like Dr Carson, but he’s no longer someone I will vote for.
Yep.
One by one every Republican contender will say something in the press that will disqualify him/herself, making Hillary 2016 a virtual certainty.
Agreed.
He’s too willing to change direction at the first sign of pushback.
Okay, who’s next?
The vast majority of Americans have no idea what a double action revolver is.
Someone should send Carson to Gunsite Academy for a couple of weeks just so he’ll have some idea what he is talking about.
Continuing to point out that the only thorough conservative in the race is:
CRUZ!
Bu Bye Ben.
Throw as much craziness at me that you want, but such statements are a disqualifier to ANY real conservative. Yes, there are MANY litmus tests that must be administered when considering a conservative candidate. Carson has made a few past subtle statements that had me doubtful. Now he is O-U-T in my book.
Other disqualifiers:
- Support for ANY abortion “rights”
- Support for recreational drug legalization, even “medical”
- Denial of 2nd Amendment rights in any form
- Denial of religious freedom, which includes the absolute freedom to disparage homosexuality and to refuse to participate in or recognize redefined “marriage”
- Support for any deference to UN dictates through “treaties”
- Support for any homosexual “rights” issues, which are actually homo-fascism. This includes LBGT “non-discrimination” laws, same-sex “marriage” as well as “civil unions.”
That thins the field pretty radically.
Who died and made him God? God tells me what my rights are—not him.
