Freeper Arrowhead1952 needs prayers [update at 401, 440, 473,503,565,606, 628,654,701]

Arrowhead (John) fell off a 20’ ladder at work, onto his head, and has a severe brain injury!

Broke all the bones in his face and skull, broke his shoulder blade and some ribs.

His last post was 10/20 in the morning. He fell about 2pm that same day and was LifeFlighted to the hospital; then, after about 6 hours of surgery, he went directly to ICU. It was touch and go for days in critical condition.

After 2 weeks in ICU he has been transferred to a Specialty Neurological Rehab center in Austin, as of 11/3.

He can move his arms and legs, so no spinal injury, but he is not cognizant. Sometimes he can respond to “can you squeeze my hand?”, sometimes not. His daughter is getting ready to go back home.

The nurses are calling them every day. Small improvements are noticed, such as he sat up for 10 seconds today, but no one has a prognosis. Brain injuries heal how they heal, when the heal, if they heal....3 to 6 months at least.

PRAY HARD, please!!!! And spread the word to your prayer lists.

Also, as language is relearned some words come out really confused. It is very much like a sped up version of childhood. They have to literally relearn most things.

I am thinking he was released around 6 months from the time of the accident. But the recovery continues for several years.

Anna, I didn't write this - I received it in freepmail this morning. I do know his daughter lives in either Kansas or possibly Missouri - I recall him mentioning her home had a basement and we joked about not having them down here.

I don't even know who started email this morning - wish I knew more

John has many friends here - and I was in a hurry to get this prayer thread posted and probably wasn’t as careful as I should have been. I didn’t write this up - it came in freepmail and I don’t know where it began (or who first learned of his accident) -

The first time I knew he was all there was during a physical therapy session where they had him laid out on a mat and were trying to get him to sit up. It was like a very large 4 or 5 month old. They got him up, even though he was still slumped over, and made him look in the mirror.

Well, oh my goodness he looked a mess. His head had been shaved but some bits of hair here and there were full length and other bits were starting to grow in. He couldn’t dress himself so it was borderline at best. He couldn’t shower or bathe so it was just the sponge bath level cleanliness.

He looked at himself in the mirror and an expression of HORROR came over his face. I about died laughing. I knew he was in there even though he could not talk.
