GREENSBORO, N.C. - Another question some of you may have had about Tuesday's election:What role did Libertarian candidate Sean Haugh play in the Senate race results?
The answer may depend on who you ask. UNCG political science professor Thom Little said Haugh didn't make much of an impact. He told our Ben Briscoe the polls he looked at showed Haugh took more votes from Thom Tillis than he did Kay Hagan.
But Elon university professor Kenneth Fernandez said the voters that supported Haugh did play a role in Hagan's loss. In a recent online experiment, researchers found two-thirds of Haugh's votes likely would've gone to Kay Hagan if he wasn't in the race. That margin would have been very close to what Hagan lost by last night.
I have theorized the same here in FL. Didn’t look at the numbers, so I may be off, but I wonder if the libertarian didn’t help Scott. Crist was on the ballot, and the Libertarian probably napped some votes that would have gon to Crist...we had the medical marijuana amendment which drew out the drug-related libertarians. I can imagine many of them didn’t vote or say the big L and opted for that candidate.
How many of them rolled the ballot and smoked it?
....and yet, Greg Brannon would not say to support Tillis over Haugh.
The Republican lost because he got less votes than the Democrats. The Republican did not lose because of the libertarian
What's with all the "Thom's" in NC?
OK GeronL, which one of us is confused; you or me? We’re talking the NC Senate Race. The Republican did NOT lose.
Losertarians aren’t funny.
So much for using a loser patsy pizza guy to try to drain away Republican votes. It BACKFIRED on her bigtime. BTW, what is the “Libertarian” Pizza Guy up to now. Delivering pizzas again?
Libertarians tend to be pro-marijuana, which helps them to take votes from low-information liberals. They also claim to support small government (and real libertarians do support small government), which helps them take votes from republicans. Supporting marijuana matters more with the low-information voters.
Har!! You made fun of their name. Can I steal that?
I was just making a general comment, usually minor parties are accused of “stealing votes” from major parties. Which is ridiculous.
If anything, the liberetardian cost us the seat in VA.
Tho many Thom’s Thakes thime tho explain.
Pizza Guy will be on Stossel tonight at 9 according to his Twitter handle. I hope Stossel grills him on his credibility as a “Libertarian.”
If most libertarians aren’t DemocRAT operatives; they might as well be.
They do nothing but split votes away from conservatives.
I’d rather support a RINO.
In what universe would someone be willing to vote for either a libertarian and a ‘Rat?
Makes no sense.
Pizza Guy was definitely a liberal pretending to be a Libertarian. He actually supports ObamaCare.
Oh BTW, did anyone notice how she sucked up to Lt. Col. Rob Maness in her speech after the voting Tuesday night? Surely, she doesn’t think he will endorse her.
