Former Obama White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, now a political commentator for CNN, casually admitted that, yes, his party uses race to convince minorities that Republicans seek to oppress them.
Before the midterm election, Carney said: "Republicans are going to pick up seats in the Senate and the House, and they may win control of the Senate. So (Democrats) need to mobilize their base voters, and that is especially true of minority voters."
Carney also admitted that the use of the race card is cynical: "Equating support for stand-your-ground law ... doesn't mean you supported the action that took Trayvon Martin's life. So that's the kind of, you know, rough ad -- similar to the one we saw from the Republican. I think we've come to expect that, and hopefully a lot of voters ... kind of tune it out."
Carney claims both sides use race to gin up their base. But when Republicans do it, he insists, they do so out of racism. Consider this exchange with Bill Kristol, the conservative publisher of the Weekly Standard. Carney claims that the Republicans' push for voter ID is motivated by the racist Republican desire to suppress the black vote:
Kristol: I voted in Virginia last Saturday. Since I was going to be in New York next week, I voted early absentee in person, and I had to show my driver's license. Do you think that's really a problem?
Carney: You know what the statistics say. You know who is most affected by the requirements, essentially poll tax-type requirements.
Kristol: Poll tax? Showing an identification is like charging people a fine, a tax?
Carney: Bill, you know that the fraud isn't substantial and real. You know it doesn't have a significant impact, because it's so minimal, on election results and you know what the motivation is behind it. You know it.
Kristol: I just totally disagree. But that's OK.
Carney: No, you don't.
So here we have two white guys -- three counting host Jake Tapper -- discussing black-white relations. White Democrat accuses white Republican of being racist against blacks. White Republican denies it. White Democrat says: Oh, yes, you are, and you can deny it all you want. But you are a bigot unless and until I say otherwise. White Republican meekly denies the charge. The subject is changed. Let's move on.
Conservative commentator Ben Stein recently called out Obama and the Democrats on their vulgar use of the race card: "What the White House is doing is trying to racialize all politics, and they're especially trying to tell the African-American voter that the GOP is against letting them have a chance at a good life in this economy. And that's just a complete lie. ... The President is the most racist president there has ever been in America. He is purposely trying to use race to divide Americans." Memo to RNC Chair Reince Priebus: Stein has just shown how to counter the race card -- with facts.
How pathetic is Obama's use of it? When running for president in 2008 -- and to prove he wasn't at all like the Reverend Al Sharpton, Obama refused to even appear with the race-hustling flamethrower. Today, they are BFF's.
Six years in, the Obama administration cannot brag about growth. This recovery is the nation's worst in 80 years, arguably ever. Dems cannot talk about declining black poverty because the rate is about where it was when Obama took office. Black Inner-city teenage unemployment exceeds 50 percent in some cities.
A black 82-year-old grandmother, a lifelong Democrat, recently called C-SPAN to explain why this time she "voted straight Republican": "I have noticed ... what the Democratic Party has done to my people. Unemployment is high in the black community -- we are double with unemployment -- than it is anywhere else. ... And I'm not talking about the people that need help -- because with so many people getting help that doesn't need help, it prevents the people that really need help from getting it. ... I hear my people calling in all the time saying that every time you say something against the ideology of President Obama, that you're doing it because he is black. We need to stop that foolishness. This man is destroying this country, and it's what he intended to do. He said he was going to transform America, and that's what he's doing."
More alarming for Democrats, it's not just 82-year-old black grannies who are reconsidering their allegiance to the Party. Young black people, the "hope and change" voters who turned out in record numbers for Obama, have also been mugged by the reality of uncommonly high unemployment and underemployment. They see that government, even when led by a young, progressive, empathetic black President, will not solve their problems. Among black 18- to 29-year-olds, nearly one-third of them now self-describe as political "independents."
After Tuesday's election, Democrats better order some new race cards. The deck is getting thin.
I have to wonder why CNN even hired this guy. It’s as though they’re asking for people to NOT trust a word they say. You could not have a worse example of an untrustworthy liar to present to your viewers.
Brilliant CNN, just brilliant...
Carney, please stop insulting black people by implying that they are incapable of procuring an ID card.
Ahhh, no. Nathan Hale was a Patriot spy in our war for Independence, hanged by the Brits on capture. Famous words: “I regret that I have but one life to give for my country.”
Nathaniel Bedford Forrest helped found the triple-K. But to his credit, he left and denounced it when the hangings and brutality began.
Multiple interracial marriages in my family, many biracial offspring. Not one whit of racism. We never learned that crap growing up in the 40s, 50s and 60s. My baby sister grew up in the 70s, as well. Two older brothers and I started in the 40s. It was a big family. :-)
We have had black, Korean, Phillipinos, black Americans and Jamaican.
Exactly WHY would you want to get gubmint PREMISSION to exercise a God-given RIGHT??!!?? It is people like you who keep the gungrabbers coming back for more. They see you kowtowing to their demand you get a permission slip to do what you already have an ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO DO!!! Stand up like you got a pair and tell them to shove it!
You first.
So you support not having to show an ID to vote?
No, that’s a whole different ballgame. Until government is reduced to its Constitutional size, at all levels, and has no favors or tax monies to pass out, having a voter ID only makes sense from a national survival standpoint.
I have.
Those racist, sexist Republicans just voted to send a black man and two women to the U.S. Senate.
Good for you. Tomorrow morning walk into the nearest police station and tell them all about it. Write back.
Just once, I'd like to see the Republican come out of his chair, reach across the table, grab his accuser by the throat and shout "Don't you dare infer that I am a racist. Or that my supporters (in this case: readers) are racists! You keep that up and I'll beat the living dog-crap out of your miserable hide. Heah???!!!"
It would be especially pleasant to confront that creep, Jay Carney, in such a manner...
Now why would I do a silly thing like that? But the way it seems to me, you LIKE asking permission to exercise your rights. What’s next, getting a license to buy books?
May your chains rest lightly.
I like the way you think!
So?
Carney, the party of the KKK is also the party of the Marxists
The first two Black United States senators were Republicans. Hiram Rhodes Revels, served 1870-1871 as senator for Mississippi at de United States Senate; and Blanche Kelso Bruce, U.S. senator for Mississippi from 1875-1881, he was the first African American to serve a full term in the United States Senate
AN OPEN LETTER TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY (FROM BLACK WOMEN)
Lincoln Heritage Institute ^ | 3-18-08 | Lt. Colonel Frances Rice,
We, African American citizens of the United States, declare and assert:
Whereas in the early 1600s 20 African men and women were landed in Virginia from a Dutch ship as slaves and from that tiny seed grew the poisoned fruit of plantation slavery which shaped the course of American development,
Whereas reconciliation and healing always begin with an apology and an effort to repay those who have been wronged,
Whereas the Democratic Party has never apologized for their horrific atrocities and racist practices committed against African Americans during the past two hundred years, nor for the residual impact that those atrocities and practices and current soft bigotry of low expectations are having on us today,
Whereas the Democratic Party fought to expand slavery and, after the Civil War, established Jim Crow Laws, Black Codes and other repressive legislation that were designed to disenfranchise African Americans,
Whereas the Ku Klux Klan was the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party, and their primary goal was to intimidate and terrorize African American voters, Republicans who moved South to protect African Americans and any other whites who supported them,
Whereas, according to leading historians (both black and white), the horrific atrocities committed against African Americans during slavery and Reconstruction were financed, sponsored, and promoted by the Democratic Party and their Ku Klux Klan supporters,
Whereas from 1870 to 1930, in an effort to deny African Americans their civil rights and to keep African Americans from voting Republican, thousands of African Americans were shot, beaten, lynched, mutilated, and burned to death by Ku Klux Klan terrorists from the Democratic Party,
Whereas Democratic Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman rejected anti-lynching laws and efforts to establish a permanent Civil Rights Commission,
Whereas the Democratic party has used racist demagoguery to deceive African Americans about the history of the Republican Party that:
(a) started as the anti-slavery party in 1854,
(b) fought to free African Americans from slavery,
(c) designed Reconstruction, a ten-year period of unprecedented political power for African Americans,
(d) passed the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments to the U. S. Constitution granting African Americans freedom, citizenship, and the right to vote,
(e) passed the Civil Rights Acts of 1866 and 1875 granting African Americans protection from the Black Codes and prohibiting racial discrimination in public accommodations, (f) passed the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1965 granting African Americans protection from the Jim Crow laws,
(g) established Affirmative Action programs to help African Americans proper with Republican President Richard Nixons 1969 Philadelphia Plan that set the first goals and timetables and his 1972 Equal Employment Opportunity Act that made Affirmative Action Programs the law of our nation, and
(h) never sponsored or launched a program, passed laws, or engaged in practices that resulted in the death of millions of African Americans,
Whereas Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka (a 1954 decision by Chief Justice Earl Warren who was appointed by Republican President Dwight Eisenhower) was a landmark civil rights case that was designed to overturn the racist practices that were established by the Democratic Party,
Whereas after Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt received the vote of African Americans, he banned African American newspapers from the military shortly after taking office because he was convinced the newspapers were communists,
Whereas Democratic President John F. Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Law, opposed the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and was later criticized by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for ignoring civil rights issues.
Whereas Democratic President John F. Kennedy authorized the FBI (supervised by his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy) to investigate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on suspicion of being a communist,
Whereas Democratic Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, made a 14-hour filibuster speech in the Senate in June 1964 in an unsuccessful effort to block passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and was heralded in April 2004 by Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd as a senator who would have been a great leader during the Civil War,
Whereas when the 1964 Civil Rights Act came up for vote, Senator Al Gore, Sr. and the rest of the Southern Democrats voted against the bill,
Whereas in the House of Representatives only 61 percent of the Democrats voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act as compared to 80 percent of Republicans, and in the Senate only 69 percent of the Democrats voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act, compared to 82 percent of the Republicans,
Whereas Democratic President Bill Clinton sent troops to Europe to protect the citizens of Bosnia and Kosovo while allowing an estimated 800,000 black Rwandans to be massacred in Africa, vetoed the welfare reform law twice before signing it, and refused to comply with a court order to have shipping companies develop an Affirmative Action Plan,
Whereas Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore created harmful racial division when he falsely claimed that the 2000 presidential election was stolen from him and that African Americans in Florida were disenfranchised, even though a second recount of Florida votes by the Miami Herald and a consortium of major news organizations confirmed that he lost the election, and a ruling by the U.S. Civil Rights Commission declared that African Americans were not denied the right to vote,
Whereas the Democratic Partys soft bigotry of low expectations and social promotions have consigned African Americans to economic bondage and created a culture of dependency on government social programs,
Whereas the Democratic Partys use of deception and fear to block welfare reform, the faith-based initiative and school choice that would help African Americans prosper is consistent with the Democratic Partys heritage of racism that included sanctioning of slavery and kukluxery, a perversion of moral sentiment among leaders of the Democratic Party whose racist legacy bode ill until this generation of African Americans,
Now, therefore, for the above and other documented atrocities and accumulated wrongs inflicted upon African Americans, we demand a formal written apology and other appropriate remuneration from the leadership of the Democratic party.
The DIMocRATs don’t play the race card...they ARE racists.
You boast about your courage, demonstrate it. Don’t lecture me about standing up to the state until you’ve demonstrated you’re willing to do the same. Be brave, c’mon, show the world you’re not afraid. Talk is cheap, walk the walk.
By the way, whatever things seem like to you? That concerns me not at all, I know what I’m talking to.
As a retired Marine, Vietnam veteran, my BRAVERY is not in question. As one who wishes to maintain a low profile... well, that’s what I do. I will not counsel you to get the hammer of the State pounding you, but you sound like you were BRAGGING about having PERMISSION to exercise a God-given RIGHT! And THAT really gets me Irish up. You should be advocating that your state do as Vermont, Alaska, Arizona and some other states have done, go to Constitutional Carry. That means NO permission slip is needful, for eiither open or concealed carry.and ZERO state obstacles to purchase your desired weapon.
You know what tough guy, it was you who decided to challenge me and my practice so I’m going to take the liberty of challenging your practice. As long as you’re just sneaking around hoping the cops don’t find out you’re carrying without a permit, you’re just chicken sh!t. If you don’t like my thoughts on the subject, haunt somebody else. I’m am not impressed with the courage of the keyboard.
