Meet the Youngest Woman Ever Elected to Congress, And She’s Pro-Life (New York)

Republican Elise Stefanik on Tuesday became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. And she’s pro-life. And she’s from New York state.

Stefanik, who was a staffer with the presidential campaign of pro-life Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, romped to a 22-point victory over Democratic challenger Aaron Woolf in New York’s 21st congressional district. The 30-year-old Stefanik is considered a rising Republican star and leading pro-life groups like the Susan B. Anthony List campaigned for her.

elisestefanik“I didn’t think I was ever going to run for office,” Stefanik told Business Insider recently. “But I was disappointed in the 2012 elections. I think we need new candidates who are able to talk about a positive vision to getting our economy moving again. Specifically in upstate New York, where young people are leaving in historic numbers for lack of jobs.”

She added: “We need new, fresh candidates. We need candidates who are able to reach out to young voters, women voters. I don’t look like a normal congressional candidate.”

Majorire Dannenfelser of SBA List says she is looking forward to working with Stefanik in Washington.

“The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund is proud to endorse such a principled and articulate pro-life leader in Elise Stefanik. We look forward to seeing Elise succeed in this historically pro-life district so that she may serve as a voice for women, unborn children, and pro-life taxpayers in Washington,” said SBA List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Her energy, experience, and passion for promoting the dignity of each human life will make Elise an excellent addition to the House Pro-life Women’s Caucus.”

“I’m proud to have the endorsement of the Susan B. Anthony List. As the only pro-life candidate in this race to also be endorsed by the GOP county committees, I will continue to be a strong advocate for women, and to fight for those who do not yet have a voice,” stated Elise Stefanik.

Born and raised in Upstate New York, Stefanik is a graduate of Harvard University. Stefanik served as Policy Director of the 2012 Republican National Committee Platform and as the director of Vice Presidential Debate Prep to Congressman Paul Ryan in 2012. She returned to New York and works in North Country sales, marketing and management at her family’s plywood products business.

Endorsed in the primary and general by
Doug Hoffman, former Conservative Party nominee for this district in NOV 2009 versus Dede Scazzafava and Bill Owens.

She is now officially The Baby Of The House, that’s the traditional endearment for the youngest member of Congress.
This sort of thing makes me very hopeful about this country.
What was it Poppy Bush used to call it? A Thousand Points of Light, yes indeed.
