Lawyers for the Obama administration compared Israels control of Jerusalem to Russian claims over the Ukrainian territory of Crimea during oral arguments this week before the Supreme Court in a case concerning the rights of U.S. citizens to list Jerusalem as part of Israel on their passports.
U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, who is rumored to be in the running to replace outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder, drew the comparison on Monday while he attempted to convince the Supreme Court that Jerusalem is not officially part of Israel.
The controversial case hinges around Menachem Zivotofsky, who was born in Jerusalem in 2002. Zivotofskys parents requested that Menachems U.S. passport bear Jerusalem, Israel as his place of birth, a request that was denied by the Obama administration on the basis of its longstanding policy to not recognize the holy city as part of Israel.
The Zivotofsky family sued following the decision and the case has been stuck in judicial limbo since. The Supreme Court agreed to hear the case and initial arguments by both sides were presented this week.
Obama administration lawyers argue that the case infringes on the presidents executive right to conduct foreign policy. By acknowledging Jerusalem as Israeli territory, the White House would lose its credibility in the peace process, as well as its jurisdiction to manage foreign affairs, the government maintains.

Or anywhere else for that matter. Give it all back to the tribes and return to Europe, Asia, SAm, and Africa.
It sounds more like he was referring to our own government's policies rather than the legitimacy of the claims of foreign governments.
Jerusalem is the capital of Israel just as Madrid is the capital of Spain. End of discussion.
Just another example of the old speaker’s adage, beware of analogies. This one is a real stinker.
The U.S. has no real legal claim to Hawaii. Technically Jefferson wasn’t legally able to purchase Louisiana.
Even Florida wasn’t obtained 100% correctly, nor Texas or the Oregon Country.
Ditto!
At which point four of the Justices broke out in uncontrollable laughter.

Sadly, the US failure to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital (or recognize it as being in Israel on passports, etc.) is not limited to Obama. It’s a disgrace that has been going on for decades. Even Reagan was wrong on this one.
Where does the regime find these nitwits? Under rocks?? Israel's claim on Jerusalem slighty predates Russia's claim on Crimea. No comparison.
More like no claim to Plymouth Rock. Round up an existing group of Jebusites and then we’ll talk.
I would say that is a pretty good description of these slime bag democrats. I like your screen name. I wonder how a lion would feel being in a den of Daniels?
Why should we care what a foreign nation puts on their passport? Our courts have no jurisdiction so if Israel issued the kid a passport big deal...he is an Israeli citizen.
Purr, purr, purrrrrrrr
This is about U.S. citizens who are born in Jerusalem (e.g., born in Jerusalem to U.S. parents who are U.S. citizens).
Hungry, I suppose. I am too fat to move fast, too old to taste good and too quick on the trigger to let them get a grip on me but my faith will sustain me.
Okay than New York is no longer New York - it is now New Amsterdam - see the Dutch owned it First and the English took it away. manhattan is no longer Manhattan, it is owned by the indians and they have a right to their land. so everything on Manhattan Island has to be torn down.. See if we utilize Obama’s logic there will be nothing left. Everything in America will have to resort back to the native americans, because the white man stole it from the indians.
In order to lose something, isn't it necessary to have it first?
“If Israel has no claim to Jerusalem, the US has no claim to Hawaii”
Or Texas.
