Raleigh, N.C. The man charged in the hit-and-run deaths of two Wake Technical Community College students on Friday night has a history of driving while impaired and was deported in 2011 from the United States, according to prosecutors.
At a first court appearance Monday afternoon, a judge raised the bond for Mateo Guzman-Palacios, 32, to $510,000.
He faces two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license, failing to stop at a red light and two counts of felony hit-and-run. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security also issued a detainer for Guzman-Palacios to notify local law enforcement that, no matter the outcome of the current criminal charges, Immigration and Customs Enforcement intends to take him into custody.
...
Guzman-Palacios told the judge that he had no money and would need to have a lawyer appointed to defend him. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 24.

Poetic justice for the shyster lawyer. Feel bad for his 4-year old.
Wrong thread, these were college kids. You want http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3222807/posts
I hope the parents of the deceased sue like there is no tomorrow for millions. As my business law professor would say when giving us a complex situation he’d ask do you sue this person, the state, the county, the city? Answer...everyone...the courts will sort it out.
I know there are protections in place for the government to be protected from lawsuit but can someone sue the federal government for gross negligence and extreme dereliction of duty?
Illegal-aliens-killing-Americans PING
Judge, my client is ready to self-deport.
It just goes on and on and on.
They should send funeral invitations to the Senate, Congress and Obama...
If they show up, force the SOB's to explain the the victim's family members why they're now both dead.
Whoops. Sorry.
I had commented about this one earlier and guessed then, before we knew who it was, that it was most likely an illegal that hit them.
Sad it’s so easy to be right.
What we really need from the new Republican Congress is a law that grants standing for ordinary citizens to sue the federal government for failure to enforce border security, and to sue businesses for hiring illegals over citizens (this is an idea of Kurt Schlichter’s). Make the trial lawyers work for OUR side. Because otherwise the courts tend to throw out such suits for “lack of standing”.
I’m with you on this and it should definitely be allowed!!
driving with a suspended license, ??
How did he have ANY LICENSE?? article doesn’t say if he was ever here legally, only that he was deported, one must assume he is and always was an Illegal Alien. He had a “suspended license”, where was the license issued?? if it was in that State where the act occurred, I would argue the Standing Issue: MY TAX Money was used to grant him a PRIVILEGE to drive for the STATED purpose of being able to Evade Income Taxes, Commit Identity Theft, Commit Tax Fraud (WORK), it is ILLEGAL to work in this country without a Valid Green Card or Citizenship, ALL LEGAL Taxpayers have been DAMAGED, sounds like anyone has standing
He’ll get a public defender who will get him off on a technicality like a misplaced time stamp or street address on the indictment after which he’ll collect a large compensation for some fictitious slight, be sent back to his home country and retrace his steps pack to the land of the big PX!
These families need to gather up support and visit the a##clown and his wife every time they have a stop.
Raleigh, NC. Home to leftist Senator Hagan (D-NC) by chance?
How are the judges down there? Just as stupid on drunk drivers as they are up here and in California?
Tillis might just pull off a badly needed win. Hope someone in his staff quickly investigates this killer’s criminal background and see who let him loose.
