North Carolina Senate: Hagan (D) 47%, Tillis (R) 46%

Kay Hagan, long viewed as perhaps the Senate’s most endangered Democrat, is still hanging in there in the closing days of North Carolina’s U.S. Senate race.

The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely North Carolina Voters shows Hagan with 47% of the vote to Republican challenger Thom Tillis’ 46%. Three percent (3%) like another candidate in the race, and another three percent (3%) are still undecided.

I think you have it correct. Polling seems to indicate not much democrat enthusiasm this year. That might carry Tillis across the finish line. Obama is not on the ballot drawing all of those lefties to the voting booth this year. If he was Tillis would lose no doubt.

In early voting at 11 am, the lines went to the parking garage across from voting place. Took an hour to vote. Many middle aged white voters online not necc a good sign for Obozo

And..U have to assume some of the Dem voters from 2010 2012 WILL vote against the Dems this time. They ain’t lining up necc because they are thrilled with the way country is heading. Coversely, VERY few Repubs will cross over, very few.

I was in NC last month and was shocked to read the full page nasty and ridiculous Democrat newspaper ads. They were aimed to appeal to the lowest mentalities of the black communities who had anger issues against society. There is no question that a lot of Dumocrat money is being poured into this race. It is sickening, especially because these people will be voting against their own interests.

Nope, I shant proclaim any candidate the eeeeeeeevil Karl Rove endorses as “pro-amnesty” with no evidence of such. Maybe the eeeeeevil Rove backed him because he was the only viable candidate in the race.

He said the General Assembly would work with the business community and other interest groups to come up with a “thoughtful, respectful way to make progress.”

A 16-page report from the House Select Committee on the State’s Role in Immigration Policy will be released publicly at the committee’s meeting on Thursday. The report’s recommendations are expected to be modest, at least compared to fears of some Hispanics and their supporters as the committee has gone about its work. At the same time, it is unlikely to appease some groups and residents who favor a much stronger stand against illegal immigration in the state.

Tillis said the Republican-led Legislature shouldn’t follow the lead of other states, which enacted tough laws against illegal immigrants.

“We have several other states that I think moved out ahead of their blockers, and probably created as many or more problems than they theoretically fixed, and we can learn from that,” Tillis said.

The Mecklenburg County Republican, who is expected to serve another two years as House speaker, said the report would include a “very thoughtful assessment and message” to the 2013-14 General Assembly on how to proceed on the issue.

“We have to get this right,” he said. “It’s a very emotional issue on both sides, and we’ve got to try and hold that rhetoric off and look at things that benefit the economy, treat people respectfully, and in some cases, address some symptoms now whose problem is really rooted in federal policy. I just think we need to be very careful with it.”

Tillis said any approach on illegal immigration must take into account the impact on jobs and certain industries that rely on immigrants, especially given the tough economic climate.

“This state cannot afford to have policies come from Raleigh that affect a single job if we can avoid it,” Tillis said. “We need to make progress but we don’t necessarily have to do it all at once. We’ve seen states that have attempted to do that and it’s gotten them into problems.”

State legislator Tillis championed a bill making it easier for North Carolina employers to hire foreign workers. Instead of temporary guest workers coming in for a few months a year to do farm work, Tillis' bill expanded "farm labor" to "all industries," and expanded "seasonal" to "nine months."

This wasn't an idle vote cast thoughtlessly: After the Republican governor vetoed Tillis' job-killing bill, Tillis led the legislature to override his veto.

Tillis has been well repaid by business interests. North Carolinians can repay him for driving down their wages on May 6.

I think Tillis has a slight edge, 49-48. A lot of negative ads have driven up Tillis’ unfavorable ratings. I am an Asst Professor at the medical center.
