Would you vote for a law that makes criminals of many neighbors, relatives and friends? Initiative 594 would do exactly that.
#In their zeal to impose universal background checks, the creators of I-594 have written a law that would require nearly all transfers of firearms to be conducted at the premises of a Federal Firearms License dealer.

I-594 is written to effectively make ALL gun owners felons.
You cannot proceed to exercise your rights in a normal fashion and not break that law.
I have violated that proposed law dozens of times in the last couple of years.
It will not stop one crook.
It will make 2nd Amendment Rights moot.
To a redneck that sounds like a ban on Christmas.
Which state? I don’t recognize the initiative - Other than that is, as stated above, deliberately criminal-inducing.
I-594 will not accidentally create felons.
I-594 was created to make every gun owner a felon.
That’s not an accident of the law.
That is its purpose.
Washington State.
Do you know how many times you have already done it over the last 30 years?
The law required undefined “transfers” to go though FFL screening.
So if my father in law hands me his unloaded heirloom gun to inspect in the living room, we are both felons.
Washington state. They have an opposing initiative 591 which is the opposite of 594. What happens if the both pass? Odd circumstance. Sadly, the Seattle area will weigh heavily on the outcome.
A LOT!
Part of the problem is that we law abiding gun owners fell for the background check BS back in the 80’s, and have been consenting to it ever since. The 2nd Amendment does not say “Shall not be infringed, as long as you have a background check”. The biggest problem are the FFL dealers themselves, unscrupulous, money hungry enemies of America, intent on making $$$ through the direct violation of the BoR. FFL dealers should be ashamed of themselves, and rightfully deserve to lose every single penny they’ve made destroying the fabric of this Nation.
A background check turns a God given right into a government granted privilege. Background checks are blatantly un Constitutional. I saw Eric Pratt (GOA) tell this to Lou Dobbs. It shook the old boy so bad he cut to commercial.
From my limited observations, it appears the majority of those offering these type items for private sale, effectively self police. Most ask for CC permits and valid ID. Of course I would have no first hand knowledge....
“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers — and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system.”

As others mention, it is not an accident.
However, IMO, that is just a “side benefit”. The real reason is to create a registration list - to be taken advantage of later. The 10-day waiting period for handguns is another one. “Hey Jim, lookit my new pistol/revolver - after you’re cleared and wait 10 days, you can handle it.”
If the backers were serious, they’d just check the NICS database to see if the person is a nutter or a criminal - PERIOD. The way it is intentionally set up, the person has to fill out a BATF Form 4473 EACH TIME for a transfer, even multiples the same time.
Just started re-reading it. Seems to have more impact now than previously.
[Ayn Rand quote]
A couple of weeks ago I posted that same in an I-594 comments section. Some guy flew off the handle, saying I was another gun nut who confused reality with a novel and said I was the kind who needed a background check.
I replied by nominating him for Olympic gold medals in Conclusion Jumping and Mind Reading, and said it was merely a comment on how Life imitates Art.
I also mentioned I have two state CCWS, which meant I had passed the state and federal background check FOUR times. In the last three years I have also bought two .22s and a shotgun, passing six more, for a total of TEN. I asked him to get back with me as to how many he had passed.
Haven’t heard anything yet.
I have been intending to re-read it, but I am too afraid.....
FR seems to be getting inundated lately. There is a ton of conclusion jumping, post misrepresentation, etc. I blame the GOP operatives trying their hard sell to get the Conservatives to vote for their lame candidates.
