STOCKHOLM (AP) — Sweden's new left-leaning government on Thursday recognized a Palestinian state — a move that comes during increased tensions between Arabs and Jews over Israel's plans to build about 1,000 housing units in east Jerusalem.
The European Union member became the third Western European nation, after Malta and Cyprus, to do so, reflecting growing international impatience with Israel's nearly half-century control of the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said Sweden, fulfilling a promise it had made when the Social Democratic-led government took office earlier this month, made the move because Palestine had met the international law criteria required for such recognition.
"There is a territory, a people and government," she told reporters in Stockholm.
Israel was quick to condemn Sweden's announcement, with Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman describing it as "a miserable decision that strengthens the extremist elements and Palestinian rejectionism."
"It's a shame that the government of Sweden chose to take a declarative step that only causes harm," he added.

Being Norwegian, you tempted me to post Swedish jokes, but it’s kind of a serious thread. Looked some up on the web though, they are funny.
To be honest, I actually don’t think Sweden is a real nation anymore. What do they have apart from IKEA? A bunch of Nazi euthanasia doctors prescribing assisted suicide to ugly women to treat depression, never ending gay pride event and a horde of bang-banging mud slimes.

Sweden is the worst Scandinavian nation as far as letting in Muslims. They are insane about it. Norway and Denmark are not nearly as loose. Finland is not Scandinavian? Few Muslims are there. Too far north
Finland is probably not Scandinavian, yet it is the most decent nation in the neighborhood. They aren’t immune to the ills of surrounding area and they have Muslims too, but they also have common sense not to push over limits with both big government and minority privilege.
Finns are not considered Scandinavians in the Mainstream; at best ‘peripheral’. Mainstream Scandinavians are Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Although Finnish language has many similarities to Swedish, as do some of the cultural aspects. But, Finland is considered more a Nordic country than ‘Scandinavian’.
Correct! Finland falls under Nordic which also includes all Scandinavian nations
I read somewhere that 100% -- ALL! -- of the reported rapes in Stockholm in 2013 were by Muslim "immigrants"
