Nurse Kaci Hickox says she won't obey Maine's Ebola quarantine: I won't be "bullied by politicians"

Nurse Kaci Hickox — who remains symptom-free after spending three days in a New Jersey isolation tent after flying home from Ebola-stricken West Africa — remains under quarantine at home in Maine, but for only another day, she tells TODAY's Matt Lauer.

“I don’t plan on sticking to the guidelines. I remain appalled by these home quarantine policies that have been forced upon me, even though I am in perfectly good health and feeling strong and have been this entire time completely symptom free,” said Hickox, who wouldn’t emerge from Maine’s 21-day voluntary quarantine until Nov. 10.

“I truly believe this policy is not scientifically nor constitutionally just, and so I’m not going to sit around and be bullied around by politicians and be forced to stay in my home when I am not a risk to the American public.”

Hickox, who pointed out that top health officials believe a quarantine is unnecessary unless someone develops symptoms, also said:

BTW, what was the total cost of the medical care and tent accommodation this fake nurse received?

It’s hard to say in a world that contains Barack Obama, but Kaci Hickox might well be the most selfish person I’ve ever seen.

I don’t care if they use a tent, a hospital, a cave or an island, I’m opposed to quarantining people that do not have Ebola.

Trying to understand those of you siding with this nurse... I think I understand now. I think you've never been a patient tested for an infectious disease.

Let me tell you what happens - to EVERYONE suspected of having an infectious disease: You're isolated in a hospital room undergoing tests by infectious disease experts. Until they figure out what you have, they don't take any chances. And, believe me, if you're a sensible, normal person (unlike Nurse Hickox), you're glad they're not taking chances.

You might have to wait a week for the test results. In the meantime, you stay... alone... in a room. If you're lucky (as I was), the results are negative, and EVENTUALLY you're released.

This nurse wasn't treated any differently. She was put into isolation in NJ until her test results came back negative, and then she was released. She'll have to stay home and monitor herself for a while. Big deal.

All this talk about this nurse's civil liberties is a bunch of nonsense. Don't fall for it. Ask yourself: What do you think this nurse told her OWN patients? I'll bet she told them to STAY PUT while they waited for THEIR test results. She probably was in favor of them being quarantined, too. She just doesn't want the rules to apply to her. ;-)

I did have some sympathy for her having to be in the accommodations she was staying at in NJ (at least as presented on TV...) - however, after she was released to stay in the comfort of her own home for the remainder of the 21 days and she just flippantly stated she had no intention of abiding by it and would go where she pleases, it was pretty clear she’s got a serious attitude problem and doesn’t really care even enough to give others simple peace of mind.

Wendy Davis, Sandra Fluke, Cindy Sheehan, the Jersey Girls, etc. How long before she makes a run for public office?

“Frankly, I think she should be told that she can’t go back if she can’t abide by quarantine rules. “

Completely agree.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. Both Craig Spencer and this nurse work for the cia-CDC in one way or another. The behavior of Spencer wasn’t the actions of any medical professional, e.g., going on the subway, bowling... Kaci is more arrogant but just as forceful in her message.

Interesting that both of them were in West Africa “volunteering” for less than a month. Kinda expensive for only a few weeks of “assistance”.

The most HATED person in America. The FACE of Ebola. I had a lot more respect for Mr. Duncan than I do for this witch.

I wouldn’t go that far. Duncan lied just like the Ebola doc. I think this disease makes you stupid as the first symptom.

“Sounds like you should go and keep her company until they know of she does or does not have it.”

I would have no problem at all keeping her company as she is exhibiting no symptoms of Ebola and if she has no symptoms, she cannot transmit Ebola.

The fact is that I have a greater chance of stepping on a elevator today, catching the flu and dying of the flu, than I would have catching Ebola from this nurse.

Just left with boyfriend on a bike ride. I guess I do not understand her, I have had the flu for a week, I have not left my home and have not let anyone in. I didn’t want to share my germs. So in essence I have quarantine myself. It is because I care about other people. How much more would I do that on being exposed to a deadly disease. I couldn’t live with myself if I gave it to someone and they died, out of my defiance. I just don’t understand people like that.

That may be true, but I do not think they know enough about Ebola to give absolutes. Every other virus you are contagious for 24 hours before any symptoms show. I, for one, am not convinced this isn’t the case here. There have not been enough cases in civilized countries to be able to say absolutely, without a doubt, that is the case. I think we have to error on the side of caution.

How hard can it be to stay in your home for 3 weeks, now only 11 more days.

I am slightly uncomfortable with her not comply with the in house quarantine.

However, I am extremely uncomfortable giving Obama or any other government official the power to mandate quarantine on Americans.

In other words, if we allow Gov. Christie to place a nurse who may have been infected with Ebola, you are giving Obama the power to force people who may have been infected with the flu into quarantine.

People are always put in isolation for infectious diseases. At least in America. Most people comply with them. This is not new. Was more aware of it years ago than now. btw New York Post just put this up: http://nypost.com/2014/10/29/cdc-admits-droplets-from-a-sneeze-could-spread-ebola/

I do not believe the CDC has been totally forthright with us on Ebola. They admitted it because they had it on a poster and someone pointed it out to them.

How much power do you wish to grant Obama and the CDC to place people in quarantine who they determine may have a disease?

Catching the flu or stepping on an elevator have nothing to do with Ebola.
Americans should have had zero chance of catching Ebola. The only reason Ebola came to America is because of the bad immigration and migration policies of this administration.
