The frustration from Charleston Daily Mail's editor and publisher Brad McElhinny was clear when TPM reach him by phone on Tuesday afternoon.
"I've had better days," he said.
His exasperation was understandable. On Saturday, Don Surber, the West Virginia paper's lone editorial columnist, took to his personal blog to offer his thoughts on "police brutality" and the killing of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown.
"This summer I had an epiphany as I watched packs of racists riot in Ferguson, Missouri, in support of a gigantic thug who was higher than a kite when he attacked Ferguson Police Department Officer Darren Wilson, who unfortunately had to put this animal down," Surber wrote.
By Sunday morning, Surber appended an update to the top of the post and crossed out the final phrase of the sentence.
"I made a factual error. Michael Brown was not an animal but a man. Big. Brutal. High," Surber wrote in the update. "His death was a justifiable homicide and not a putting down."(continued)

I never said he was a rabid dog, I was just saying what I would do if I was charged by a rabid dog.
However, I would argue that brown was, in fact, WORSE than a rabid dog, because a rabid dog cannot choose its actions any longer because it has a fatal brain disease.
Brown chose to do what he did. He made the conscious choice to attempt to take a police officer’s gun, and then...what? Walk away? Don’t think so. He was going to kill him.
And the people engaging in this damn nonsense in Ferguson are making the conscious choice to ignore Brown’s DECISION TO BE A MONSTER, and demanding this officer’s blood.
WHICH IS DISGUSTING!
With all the intelligence God gave to man, man chooses to use it for blatant dishonesty.
That's the worst mistake you can make with leftist radicals. Never, never, ever back down. Not an inch - or they'll rip you to shreds.
This guy's toast now.
Biologically speaking, all humans are animals, except those occupying government offices. They are plants.
The republicans take the senate and Obama says “It’s only by a few seats. The system is still broken.”
The democrats hold the senate and Obama says “The American people have spoken.”
“By Sunday morning, Surber appended an update to the top of the post and crossed out the final phrase of the sentence.”
Yellow spined coward.
“I made a factual error. Michael Brown was not an animal but a man. Big. Brutal. High,”
No he wasn’t he was exactly what Surber described, an animal.
Is this guy a republican congressman?
What are the chances this was just part of Operation Stir the Pot.. by a dyed in the wool Democrat. Ebola is getting too much air time. Good people in Ferguson need to kick out the bussed in agitators and heal their town of this entire episode. Astro turf race riots. Awfully convenient timing for all of this just days before the midterms.
Zombie attack.
Yeah well the film of this “gentile giant”, shoving the store clerk sure screwed up the narrative of this thug turning his life to good.
Huh. I thought for sure he was Jewish.
“C’mon Don, one more shot of Tequila. What could go wrong? “
I imagine this opinion is shared by much of WV. They view the riots as entertainment.
‘Just calling a spade, a spade!
Yeah,
That’s a normal way for them Jew kids to act.
While they aren’t studying.
I wonder how many pairs of work boots, gloves or books were looted?
My guess is NONE.
some guy......about to assault some older gal
Here in Texas it is perfectly legal to use your weapon to defend others.
Unexpectedly interesting link. That Alcee Hastings’ name popped up as an attorney defending/justifying an organized black-on-white mass-murder ring, and this trial concurrently during the Rodney King trial fiasco; oh, what timing...
If the stores restock them, they are there for the taking. Loot, restock, loot that can and will continue as long as the stores stay there. And when the looters exhaust that excuse, they will find another.
Yup. And on top of it he wasn’t the sharpest spade in the shed.
