"...Before I even walked over, I told my wife to go to the front of the store with the kids and call the police, he said, explaining that his first concern was the safety of his family
Nelson said he then carefully approached the knife-wielding man and thought real hard about drawing my gun. He ultimately decided to keep a hand on his firearm and let the assailant know he was armed rather than drawing out of fear that he might cut the woman in a panic.
I didnt have to draw, he told TheBlaze. He knew I was armed and at that point, he became a little more cooperative. I was pretty forceful in demanding him to put the knife down.....Police eventually responded to the scene and put the suspect in handcuffs."

When seconds count, the police will be there in a matter of minutes.
Walmart is homed in what is maybe the gun-lovingest part of the whole USA. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
Awwww, you’re being generous. Not discounting what most cops do daily, there’s no way they can be on scene the second they are needed. In rare circumstances, they might happen to be on scene when needed but it’s rare.
Not worried because if I’m CCW, unless there are metal detectors at the entrance, how do they know? (thank goodness for plastic guns and bullets in the case of metal detectors huh?) :>}
“Not discounting what most cops do daily, theres no way they can be on scene the second they are needed.”
Absolutely. We woulnd’t want to be in a nation that requires police in every store at all times. We ultimately need to return to preachers who terrify children with ‘hellfire’ sermons, with a nation that lets everyone know that we DO NOT deserve the best. And we need a nation that is not only well armed, but is scared of going to hell for murder.
First of all Chief, thanks for your service to our country and us.
“When seconds count, the police will be there in a matter of minutes.”
That is the way it has been in America even before we became a country.
Unless, you live in a police state with state cops everywhere, self defense for our families and our selves and for our ancestors depended on them and us.
Living in the mountains of the Olympic Peninsula it could take cops forty five minutes to respond - provided they’re not at some other place.
No doubt. There are some pretty remote areas in Washoe county that would take deputies a real long time to get to. I guess that’s why “they” would prefer the majority of citizens live in a more confined area. So “they” can better protect them/us. Couldn’t be any ulterior motive could there? :>}
Exactly right. Unless you are a cop, they are almost always going to be minutes away. I don’t want to live in a police state where they are typically everywhere. I’d far rather accept and prepare for being responsible for my own safety.

That is the point. When you hear “when seconds count, the police will be there in minutes”...
That is not bagging on police...that is simply stating that each of us have the “right” to defend ourselves (and others) in the most appropriate way possible.
Dear God, has it gotten to the point where we can’t walk the street or shop for fear someone will behead us, slash us with a knife or hatchet while Obola protects his muzzie bros?
More than one of the ‘managers’ at my local Wally World are armed when at work. I am too, and I shop peacefully.

You bet. Our ancestors were responsible for their own safety, and they were stronger people.
My God Father owned a bank in a small SW town that was miles from the nearest lawmen. He and his fellow merchant had set up an alarm system that was silent in their stores/his bank if they triggered the system. However the other merchants heard the alarm and the triggered code when it was triggered by my Godfather or the other merchants.
The other merchants would be waiting behind cars/trucks with their guns when the bad guys came out with their guns. After handling a couple of the bad guys, their little town was left alone by the bad guys.
Thank you sir. It was an honor and privilege to serve this country.
Some folks seem to think I was running down the response time of law enforcement. I was not doing that.
If there were more armed citizens there would be fewer problems.
Law enforcement can’t be everywhere.
Thanks again for your service and your clarity on this.
“Not worried because if Im CCW, unless there are metal detectors at the entrance, how do they know?”
BOL! My wife and I recently went to a high school game at the New Levi Stadium for the 49ers.
They had very sensitive metal detectors, and my evil wife and I set them off as we passed the security area..
She broke her wrist and shoulder in two separate accidents and has metal in both areas.
I had extensive foot surgery a year ago, and my foot Xray looks like an ad for Ace Hardware re their hardware parts and screws.
We explained our new robotic and bionic parts, and a young and polite security lady did the wand thing. Her wand did its thing, sounding loud alarms as she passed it over our new parts. She laughed and said that it was good that we weren’t trying to get on a plane with TSA agents with our rebuilt parts. She said when the pro team members are scanned, the security people need ear plugs due to all the added hardware under the players skins.
Another good reason not to fly.
“More than one of the managers at my local Wally World are armed when at work. I am too, and I shop peacefully.”
I think that we will see more of that as they hire more veterans and ‘vet’ them.
Everyone of our gun shop owners and workers are packing, and it is obvious what they are packing.
Marysville is not up in the Olympic Mountains, but part of the megalopolis spread across the lower foothill slopes of said mountains. The Missus and I have overnighted there in the home of friends.
If one lives in remote areas and sometimes not so remote areas in Oregon and other states, there is no response for a long time.
Oregon police too broke to fight crime
