Jordans king told Russian President Vladimir Putin that Moscow plays a pivotal role in efforts to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, during a meeting between the two in Moscow Wednesday.
The world should realize that without Russia, it is nearly impossible to make serious progress in the region, King Abdullah II said, in a meeting that highlighted security and economic cooperation between the two nations, according to the Russian news agency TASS. Of course, we are very grateful to Russia for the role it plays in the Mideast region.

Russia hasn’t yet found a way to be a good neighbor, or refrain from acting outside the bounds of what modern Western nations do. So now Jordan thinks it’s the even handed player that can referee the Arab Israeli situation. Forehead palm event...
Right now Russia is in the process of imploding. Why not bring it into the international mix on Arabs vs Israelis?
Good grief!
Do you have any good links that teach on those verses you have mentioned? I never finished my own personal study of bible prophecy, so I never bothered to form an opinion on the “Gog-Magog” prophecy.
Thanks very much!

I remember the days when the US had influence in the region. Before the Obama spring, not that long ago. China has two years to step up, but so far Russia and radical Islamists are the biggest winners thru the Obama years.

From Matthew Henry’s commentary on chapter 48 (available in full on biblegateway.com (just click on Study This while looking at Bible text):

“Moab is next set to the bar before Jeremiah the prophet, whom God has constituted judge over nations and kingdoms, from his mouth to receive its doom. Isaiahs predictions concerning Moab had had their accomplishment (we had the predictions Isa. 15:1-16:14 and the like Amos 2:1), and they were fulfilled when the Assyrians, under Salmanassar, invaded and distressed Moab. But this is a prophecy of the desolations of Moab by the Chaldeans, which were accomplished under Nebuzaradan, about five years after he had destroyed Jerusalem. Here is, I. The destruction foretold, that it should be great and general, should extend itself to all parts of the country (Jer. 48:1-6, 8, and again Jer. 48:21-25, 34), that spoilers should come upon them and force some to flee (Jer. 48:9), should carry many into captivity (Jer. 48:12, 46), that the enemy should come shortly (Jer. 48:16), come swiftly and surprise them (Jer. 48:40, 41), that he should make thorough work (Jer. 48:10) and lay the country quite waste, though it was very strong (Jer. 48:14, 15), that there should be no escaping (Jer. 48:42, 45), that this should force them to quit their idols (Jer. 48:13, 35) and put an end to all their joy (Jer. 48:33, 34), that their neighbours shall lament them (Jer. 48:17-19) and the prophet himself does (Jer. 48:31, 36). II. The causes of this destruction assigned; it was sin that brought this ruin upon them, their pride, and security, and carnal confidence (Jer. 48:7, 11, 14, 29), and their contempt of and enmity to God and his people, Jer. 48:26, 27, 30. III. A promise of the restoration of Moab, Jer. 48:47).”
I am not sure of what the point of your post is?
Jeremiah 48-49 was fulfilled before the birth of Christ.
Jeremiah 49:2 “2 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the Lord.”
Which was fulfilled by King David’s complete conquest of the city:
2 Samuel 12
“26 And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27 And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
28 Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
29 And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30 And he took their king’s crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David’s head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.
31 And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brick-kiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem”
Matthew Henry’s commentary has much more regarding these passages for the interested reader and is a good starting point for learning the viewpoints that were generally held by good scholars up until his time, the 18th century.
They include the various known and respected historical alternative interpretations, if verses had more than one, as of the 18th century.
Henry’s commentaries are a really wonderful study guide.
I would suggest you read them, of course, for Psalm 83 as well.
My post #15 is completely wrong (and nonsensical). I was reading elsewhere, not from Henry’s commentaries.
King David’s conquering was obviously not the fulfillment of of Jeremiah 48-49; the attacks of the Chaldeans.
My mistake, responding too fast without carefully reading.
Post #11 has part of Henry’s commentary on Jer. 48.
