~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska Joint Base ElmendorfRichardson is a United States military facility in Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. It is an amalgamation of the United States Air Force's Elmendorf Air Force Base and the United States Army's Fort Richardson, which were merged in 2010. Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson's mission is to support and defend U.S. interests in the Asia Pacific region and around the world by providing units who are ready for worldwide air power projection and a base that is capable of meeting PACOM's theater staging and throughput requirements.
Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is the home of the Headquarters, Alaskan Command (ALCOM), Alaskan NORAD Region (ANR), Joint Task Force-Alaska (JTF-AK), Eleventh Air Force (11 AF), the 673d Air Base Wing, the 3rd Wing, the 176th Wing and other Tenant Units. The 673d ABW comprises over 5,500 joint military and civilian personnel, supporting America's Arctic Warriors and their families. The wing supports and enables three AF total-force wings, two Army Brigades and 55 other tenant units. In addition, the wing provides medical care to over 35,000 joint service members, dependents, VA patients and retirees throughout Alaska. The 673d ABW maintains an $11.4B infrastructure encompassing 84,000 acres, ensuring Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson remains America's premier strategic power projection platform. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a binational United States and Canadian organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America. Aerospace warning includes the monitoring of manmade objects in space, and the detection, validation and warning of attack against North America whether by aircraft, missiles or space vehicles, utilizing mutual support arrangements with other commands. Aerospace control includes ensuring air sovereignty and air defense of the airspace of Canada and the United States. Learn More About Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson HERE!!

Good evening, Lauren!
***HUGS***
It's great to see you this evening! Thanks very much for tonights Road Trip to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.
The one and only time I have been to Alaska was a 2 or 3 hour stopover at Elmendorf AFB 22 August 1969 on my way back from 'Nam. We were in the belly of a C-141 Starlifter fitted out as an airborne medical transport with cots and staffed by Air Force nurses and med techs.
We departed Clark AFB, PI - one leg to Guam - then to Yokota, then to Elmendorf. From there, we made one more stop at Chanute AFB and finished up at Andrews AFB, Maryland after over 24 hours in the air, plus stopovers.
From there, a 30 mile trip by ambulance to NNMC Bethesda, where I was met by my Mother and girlfriend.

Undeserved Praise
Oct 21, 2014
Read: Luke 5:27-32
Even before I could afford a self-cleaning oven, I managed to keep my oven clean. Guests even commented on it when we had them over for a meal. Wow, your oven is so clean. It looks like new. I accepted the praise even though I knew I didnt deserve it. The reason my oven was clean had nothing to do with my meticulous scrubbing; it was clean because I so seldom used it.
How often, I wonder, am I guilty of accepting undeserved admiration for my clean life? Its easy to give the impression of being virtuous; simply do nothing difficult, controversial, or upsetting to people. But Jesus said we are to love people who dont agree with us, who dont share our values, who dont even like us. Love requires that we get involved in the messy situations of peoples lives. Jesus was frequently in trouble with religious leaders who were more concerned about keeping their own reputations clean than they were about the spiritual condition of those they were supposed to care for. They considered Jesus and His disciples unclean for mingling with sinners when they were simply trying to rescue people from their destructive way of life (Luke 5:30-31).
True disciples of Jesus are willing to risk their own reputations to help others out of the mire of sin.
Dear Lord, give me a heart of compassion for
those who are lost in sin. Help me not to be
concerned about what others think of me but
only that Your holy name will be honored.
Christ sends us out to bring others in.
The role of tax collector in first-century Israel was quite different from what we would think today. Ancient Rome operated on the back of the taxes drained from conquered lands like Israel. This was overseen by the local governor (or procurator), but it was actually accomplished by local citizens like Levi (also known as Matthew), who worked for Rome. These tax collectors, however, were not viewed as simple agents or bureaucrats. They were known to charge higher taxes than were due and to pocket the excess. They were despised as collaborators who had aligned themselves with the hated occupying force. The taxes they collected were a continuing symbol of the oppression the Jews felt as a conquered people, and the tax collectors were considered participants in that oppression.

Good evening, Pro...((HUGS))...my favorite colors.
Packing done? Good drive home?
I woke up to our first snow down here in town...snowed all morning. Roads are already melted. Nights are cold enough, but the days are still in the mid to high 30s.

My son and DIL tried to get stationed at Elmendorf but it didn’t work out. They were very disappointed.

I spent a lot of hours on that C-130 that is shown taxiing. It's one of eight sequentially numbered from 82-0054 to 82-0061. This particular one is 82-0060. Between all eight I have over 5000 hours on them as a loadmaster.
