So . . . the Norwegian government subsidizes the purchase price of electric cars and allows you to drive in bus lanes (cutting your commute time by an anecdotal 5/6's). Free public parking and no tolls at toll roads for electric cars.

No annual registration fee. If you drive for a living, an income-tax deduction for electric cars. Exemption from sales taxes on the purchase of electric cars.

The money for subsidies comes from a Sovereign Wealth Fund, initially funded by revenues from the sale of oil and gas to other countries, but now also in investments purchased with those oil and gas revenues. Those investments include investments in oil and gas companies.

"Carbon laundering' (and the availability of hydroelectric power) allows Norway to be one of the 'greenest' nations on earth.

there are cheaper electrics than tesla, and they could still get the advantages. ford makes an all electric cmax and an electric focus, a nissan leaf, hell even a volt is far less expensive.

Norway exports 1,700,000 BOPD (620 million bbls /year) and 3.9 TCF of natural gas per year.

http://1.usa.gov/1ynqP2n

At $100/barrel and $10/mcf that works out to about $62 Billion and $39 Billion in revenues per year. Like most countries with state owned oil companies, high taxes on mineral extraction, and no private ownership of minerals; most of these revenues accrue in one fashion or another to the state.

Norway has a population of 5.019 million people. Which means that the state of Norway has a fossil fuel budget contribution of about $20,000 per person.

... this became also a tool for transfer of financial wealth to future generations...

Yeah, well...we have a tool for transfer of financial debt to future generations.

It's called the Democrat Party.

The Norwegian government is subsidizing the purchase of American sports cars. Makes them happy, good for the American economy. What’s not to like?

that’s what happens when a country saves their surplus instead of spending themselves into a hopeless debt. the usa could have done the same thing if not for socialists wanting more freebies now for electioneering.

Free access to the bus, or HOV lane is an interesting sort of subsidy. It’s not just used in Norway.

HOV and bus lanes are supposed to reduce congestion. That’s the rationale for creating them. Pack more people into every mile of road. Of course, the congestion is the same; whether your car runs on gas or battery power. Single-passenger EVs don’t reduce congestion. In fact, if enough of them were to occupy an HOV lane, that lane could become congested. Oh, the irony.

Many people would be willing to pay for access to HOV lanes, so this “subsidy” has a market value. However, no money changes hands — no taxes need to be collected, no subsidies paid out — so naturally governments like this form of subsidy.

Good ol’ Norway, land of hypocrisy, self righteousness, and food that smells like rotten fish. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. They are somewhat less hypocritical than the Swedes.

Norwegians export oil and gas, but punish themselves with prohibitive taxes on automobiles. Big engines are particularly frowned upon.

Care for a 2013 Chevy Camaro convertible in Norway? Only $213,000.
