$39,643,352 Worth of NIH Funding That Could Have Gone to the Ebola Vaccine
Washington Free Beacon ^ | October 16, 2014 | Elizabeth Harrington

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has spent more than $39 million on obese lesbians, origami condoms, texting drunks, and dozens of other projects that could have been scrapped in favor of developing an Ebola vaccine.

“Frankly, if we had not gone through our 10-year slide in research support, we probably would have had a vaccine in time for this that would’ve gone through clinical trials and would have been ready,” said NIH Director Francis Collins, blaming budget cuts for his agency’s failure to develop a vaccine for the deadly virus.

However, the Washington Free Beacon has uncovered $39,643,352 worth of NIH studies within the past several years that have gone to questionable research.

For instance, the agency has spent $2,873,440 trying to figure out why lesbians are obese, and $466,642 on why fat girls have a tough time getting dates. Another $2,075,611 was spent encouraging old people to join choirs.

On Tuesday, Health and Human Services (HHS) had to outsource efforts at an Ebola vaccine to the Baltimore-based Profectus BioSciences Inc. The company will receive $8.6 million to research and test their vaccine, a fraction of NIH funding that went to the above projects.

Before you Freepers complain about mind-boggling government stupidity, you should remember that it wasn't necessary to develop an Ebola vaccine ... because we have more important things to worry about ... because the disease was never going to happen here ... even with our open borders!

College is where you go to ‘learn the ropes’, make contacts and develop the skill(s) that assist in landing a job that does nothing and pays well.

The “lack ofs” in our current CDC are more as a result of funding priorities as opposed to funding levels.

Those funding priorities are more about agenda driven distribution of Government funding to well connected political cronies.

People are dying because the Obama Chicago Way CDC has not funded “anyone that that nobody didn't send” and the people that the somebodies in the Obama Government have been sending were a bunch of left wing loony crackpots more bent on funding their lifestyles and generating politicized reports used imposing their agenda.

“fat girls have a tough time getting dates.”

Shows you how literally everything in liberalism is designed to enhance propaganda. Who wants to make a bet about whether or not that study appears in articles and papers about the “massive increase in bullying” and such?

Then ask yourself why you would need to ‘study’ something that people knew the answer to going back to the first dateless fat girl. In the big picture, there wasn’t a massive cash exchange here. But the propaganda value is pretty high.

$40,000,000.00 wasted dollars? I dare say if taken in total over the past few years this government has easily wasted $400,000,000,000.00.

We study why fat girls can’t find dates AND why lesbians are obese. Come to think of it, wouldn’t those 2 studies be related?

The Democrats, besides lying about the GOP, are being dishonest on another front - chances are we would not have had a vaccine before because there was no pressing need. There is now, while Obama is POTUS.

This is ridiculous. First and foremost, Ebola has been around for a long time now, and if the CDC or NIH had any vision regarding its potential global spread, AND, if they felt that finding a vaccine was fairly straightforward, they could easily have found the funding to do it. Easily.

Second, I would put Ebola as an issue for the WHO to target, and if they had made this a priority over the past many years, instead of politicizing all that they've politicized over and over (much of it anti-US), they could have focused attention and likely raised funding for an anti-Ebola vaccine.

Third, if you look at all the foreign aid we spend, surely some of that could have been targeted to an Ebola program.

Fourth, there was tons of ‘stimulus’ money targeted to the NIH several years ago. Much of it was pre-targeted at politically correct research projects that I highly doubt made much of an impact.

Fifth, it was ENTIRELY predictable that voting the Democrats in and letting them push a national health care agenda of the sort that they did was going to lead to decreased research funding, but I guarantee that the overwhelming majority of academic centers and government-run research centers voted for the Democrats - ironically thinking this would actually increase funding to them. Very wrong. When the Democrats crash an economy, go on their inevitable spending sprees, and on top of all that have to find huge dollar amounts to fund a government health program, there's going to be a lot less money available for research - and this is precisely what happened.

Sixth, it's time the entire review process for grant funding is overhauled such that the science is reviewed without knowing who the applicant is (you can have a separate review of the applicant's track record and abilities done by separate reviewers). There's way too much ‘networking’ etc. involved in grant funding, and it leads to stale research. Further, productivity should be looked at on the basis of the impact of what is published by a lab - not the sheer number of papers. Generally, less than 50% of published papers are ever cited event once. That's a problem, as we seem to be spending our money on non-impact research.

You're right - it wasn't an NIH priority because it wasn't a US health problem. Funding for this could have been targeted in a different manner, and in fact the CDCs budget for emerging infectious diseases was apparently increased by our current Congress. Apparently the CDC budget that Congress approved was more than what the White House asked for.

Republicans need to always be armed with the facts, because the left will politicize anything - and their approach is always to point fingers at others to avoid the blame that they deserve.

This is why socialists run out of money.

But, our message we need to broadcast is that we tasked the CDC, NIH, DHHS and DHS to be prepared should terrorists use a biological weapon against the US.

Additionally, these agencies were supposed to prepare our medical facilities for handling such cases and any type of contagion outbreak.

Clearly, the government failed the people again.

“We study why fat girls can’t find dates AND why lesbians are obese.”

Government grants for academic research. Some leftist likely used the study for a PhD dissertation.

One way to save billions is to slash staffing at colleges and universities by requiring faculty to spend 80% of their time in the classroom instead of most of their time engaged in worthless federally funded research and writing papers no one will read.

Bagdad Bob is alive and well, can be contacted at NIH.
You ever notice that all of Obama’s appointees are incompetent and/or liars. Please note the Obama “ain’t my fault” body language.

Pubbies and Pubbie commentators need to have that information to throw back in the faces of the Dem and Newsies commentators whose talkingpoints blame the Republican budget cuts.

But, alas, the Pubbies are typically unarmed when they go on those venues.

Ebola-eussical, the Musical..

You cannot catch it on a Bus.
Even if you lick infected pus.

You cannot catch it from a Hug.
Harder to get than flu, this ebola bug.

You cannot catch it from a mouse.
Or rooming in an infected house.

You cannot catch it from the air.
Even on a plane ride from Zim-zam-zaire.

You can trust the Cee Dee Cee
Obama will save us, you will See....
