Swiss Cottage Tesco Staff Tell blind woman to 'Get Dog Out'

A blind woman was left "horrified" and "distressed" when staff at Tesco in north London shouted at her to get her guide dog out.

Maya Makri, 39, was in the Swiss Cottage shop 10 days after moving to the capital when she was told "never come back".

She said three cashiers shouted "no pets allowed" and to leave the shop.

Tesco said: "This clearly should never have happened and we will contact Ms Makri directly to apologise." 'Very upsetting'

During the incident on Monday, Ms Makri said her guide dog of six years, Jemma, was wearing a high-visibility jacket and harness which is labelled "guide dog".

"I got to the till and could sense there was an uncomfortable atmosphere then the man behind the till started shouting 'no pets allowed'," she said.

Talk about poor customer service. I would not want to be treated this way and this is how Tesco treated a blind woman with a guide dog. Which is legally allowed in any business establishment. The company apologized but you have to wonder what kind of training it gives their staff. When you tell a customer not to come back, you'll be bankrupt in no time.

Companies that don't grasp the importance of customer service won't get paying customers in their doors and they will lose those they have. Was the staff at the store Muslim? It would explain a lot of things.

All the same it was rude, belittling, insulting and very unprofessional behavior shown to a blind person. As someone with a disability, I would never put up with that kind of treatment from any one.

Everywhere I was service dogs aren’t counted as ‘pets’ and aren’t a subject to restrictions.
Might be a bunch of dumb employees.

This took place in London, so I suspect the clerks didn't consider the dog to be halal.

The company is also exposed to legal liability. Reckless employees can not only ruin a company’s image and besides reflecting badly on the boss, their conduct can expose the company to serious financial loss.

Those cashiers need to be fired.

That was my guess as well, there was another story just a few weeks ago about Muslim staff at some British business telling school kids “no jews allowed” in their store, before the management found out and fired them.
