Dr. Manny Alvarez: Did the CDC put Dallas nurse Nina Pham at risk? (Calls for Frieden's resignation)
Fox News ^ | October 15, 2014 | Dr. Manny Alvarez

When I recently called for the resignation of CDC director, Dr. Tom Frieden, some of you may have thought I went too far. And yet here we are, facing startling claims that the Dallas medical staff who responded to the first patient diagnosed with Ebola in the United States – including a nurse who is now hospitalized with the virus – had limited protocols in place.

America, if you weren’t worried by Frieden’s inadequacy before, you should be now.

No, the John Wayne Gacy of medical care put the entire Nation at risk and every US Ebola death is blood on his hands.

The startling claims include:

Glove openings were not taped shut on protective suits, exposing wrists and hands to exposure

Protective clothing did not cover necks, exposing skin between the collar and the bottom of the face shield

To cover their necks, nurses were told to use tape that does not block the virus

Some supervisors told nurses that face masks were not required at all when caring for Duncan

Duncan was not isolated immediately when he was finally admitted to the hospital with Ebola symptoms and was left for several hours in a hospital ward with other patients nearby

A nursing supervisor faced resistance from hospital chiefs when nurses demanded Duncan be isolated

Nurses treating Duncan were also caring for other patients in the hospital

Patients who may have been exposed to Duncan were kept in isolation only for a day before being moved to areas with other patients

The CDC is doing its job - controlling disease.

But 'control' does not always mean what we think it means.

It was distressing to read about him agonizing about how he regrets not being more aggressive in the first case in Dallas. He has a case of ebola in the USA and it wasn't a "damn the torpedoes" situation to him? He's been cavalier about the entire process whereas he's paid to be paranoid in favor of being OVERLY aggressive to stop an outbreak. He runs the Center for Disease CONTROL, not the Center for Disease MONITORING AND PR.

That said, his boss has let it be known that anything that even hints at hampering 100% open borders in any way will be met with extreme prejudice, regardless of the consequences. So while I think he needs to go, and he will be tossed under the bus for sure, I have little confidence it will get better once he does.

Kind of like “real gun control means hitting your target”?

Maybe if they hadn’t spent all that money on studying why homos are depressed and why lesbians are fat,

they’d have some funds left over to spend on keeping 1/3 of the country from dieing of ebola.

Is it me or is Freiden a robot, with canned answers? He can’t, or at least hasn’t, called Duncan (deceased patient in Texas) by name! There’s something really, and I mean, REALLY, weird about this guy!

If we had prudently months ago blocked admission to the US by people from Ebola infected areas how many cases of Ebola would we now have in the US?.... NONE!

These two health care workers were infected because of Obama's open border policies. The Dallas hospital was not as well prepared for this type of serious disease as the facilities at Emory University or UNMC in Omaha and as a result at least two of the healthcare staff got infected and God knows how many other people Mr. Duncan came in contact with are now at risk. The blithering idiot head of CDC should be fired and the borders closed immediately for anyone coming from Ebola infected areas. The Pentagon general was right if Ebola gets to Latin America millions of infected people will flock to the US across our open southern border and the US will look like Europe when it was ravaged by the Black Death.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

A reporter needs to ask Frieden if he has ever heard of Kermack and McKendrick.

The depth of common sense illustrated by your post would disqualify you for any government work.

The nobama bunch will lie until we show up with the pitchforks. Maybe, just maybe this will push the election even harder against the damn lying dems, in mass.

Watching FNC Kelly Report interview last night where she pressed him on the West African flights and he kept up with the silly answers even when countered with the question of Charter Flights for essential medical personnel.

I am absolutely flabbergasted that NO ONE in News will ask the question for the real reason on not stopping West Africa travel, such as who in the Administration has ruled out this important safeguard. There is a gorilla standing in the corner and they refuse to point it out!
