MANILA, Philippines–The government has begun requiring a 21-day screening for Filipinos in Ebola-hit countries in West Africa before they would be allowed to travel to the Philippines, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said on Monday.

Once cleared, returning Filipinos will be covered by a “no regrets” policy requiring observation for another 21 days in the Philippines to make sure they had not contracted the deadly virus, he said.

During the second phase, Ona said Filipinos coming from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone would be asked to inform local health authorities by cell phone of possible Ebola virus symptoms such as fever, severe headache, diarrhea and unexplained hemorrhage.

“Everything is being done to make sure that there would be no chance of a patient infected with Ebola coming to the Philippines,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a World Health Organization (WHO) regional forum in Pasay City.

There are more than 3,000 Filipino workers in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone where there is “widespread transmission” of the Ebola Virus Disease....

So the president and health secretary of a small, poor, third-world country are much smarter than our genius messiah and his posse?

Why, those xenophobic racists, don’t they know they’re going to crash the economy in West Africa? It’s doing more harm than good, keeping Ebola out of the Philippines.

It is political correctness along with liberal arrogance that believe we are so superior to those impoverished countries that it cannot happen here.

Ebola loose in the Philippines is a particularly horrific idea.
That is one dense place. In public places in Manila the term “sea of humanity” is not an exaggeration.
Good for them. Philippine governments sometimes manage good sense. Its big problem is execution of its policies.

Manila is not the problem so much as the Provinces

They have plenty of understanding of how devastating ebola will be when it hits the cities, a few homeless or poor people living in the city get it spread around, that gives a foundation for the disease to spread. By the time it gets realized, the disease will kill and spread like crazy. The Phillipinos are more sane than the lying, POS Frieden sitting in the CDC and sucking Obama’s #$%^

Manila is the worst, though it would spread easily everywhere.
Manila is extremely densely populated and sanitation is terrible.

Our¿ CDC head says they are not blaming the #1 Dallas nurse that contracted Ebola ...that the virus is the enemy.
Damn just damn!
Should not have allowed zero into this country.
Demand restrictions and border security now!

Maybe smarter, maybe they feel more public pressure, maybe they care about the public.

Realistically, in the less wealthy countries, the citizenry have a habit of storming government buildings and executing the incompetent government officials themselves.

I think that the majority of Filipinos are in those countries as healthcare workers and are Catholic vocation and lay personnel.

In the first phase, will they be quarantined in country (West Africa) and where and under what conditions?

And in the second 21 day phase, when they check in, are they in observation in a quarantine area, or allowed to go home and see a government health care official?

The article also says this:

“British Prime Minister David Cameron has asked President Aquino to consider sending a team of volunteers to join 500 British health workers now in West Africa to help contain the deadly Ebola virus, British Ambassador Asif Ahmad said on Monday.”

As an American of Filipino descent, I am glad that this poor country is a help rather than a burden to this world crisis.

I’ve seen convincing arguments for initial 3 week quarantine both here and prior to travel, as far as a similar policy for the US. Cost aside I’m more in favor of quarantine under the complete control of the government implementing it, so it would be domestic rather than in West Africa for the initial 3 weeks. Self-quarantine with monitoring and mandatory reporting for an additional 3 weeks afterward seems an added measure of safety but perhaps not necessary. Erring on the side of caution is not a bad thing in light of the circumstance, I suppose.

The Philippines will have many on the frontlines of this war.
And for the most part it will be Filipinas, as there are so many nurses everywhere. It is their moment of glory and peril.
Sadly I fear many will perish.

Those leaders love and want to preserve their country unlike the ones in the US.

The U.S. also has a sense of invincibility that is not particularly helpful—there is always more money and more resources to throw at a problem, so if it is not nipped in the bud, it won’t be the end of the world. Some countries know that they don’t have this sort of luxury.

I was in Manila last week, for a vacation to do the Mall of Asia. I came in and out on Cebu Pacific. Aqino airport is huge and very busy. I can see where there could be problems with this.

There is no PC in the Philippines, so they can check all the returnees, and do their best to keep Ebola out. The libtards don't care if thousands of Americans die from these diseases, as long as they can worship at the altar of PC. What A holes.
