Friday on PBS's "News Hour," syndicated columnist Mark Shields pointed out, "among young Republicans, 61 percent of Republicans -- young Republicans under the age of 30 are in favor of same sex marriage."
New York Times columnist David Brooks "applauded," the GOP for "doing absolutely the right thing in withdrawing" and letting the country have its way.
Brooks said "I sort of applaud the minimalism here. Sometimes you let the country have its way and you don't try to determine the shape of the country, you sort of modestly step back and let the country figure out what it believes. And I think they're doing absolutely the right thing in withdrawing and not getting involved"
"Scott Walker, the governor of Wisconsin, said, 'Ok, it's over with.' He was happy to brush it off. I think a lot of candidates just don't want to deal with it."

Notice how Brooks anthropomorphized “country” and acts as if it can decide for itself...
As if the country isn’t made up of people who shape its course.
But, Brooks thinks that some anthropomorphic entity - the “country” - is loose and making decisions... LOL.
Homo marriage is one more nail in the coffin of the USSA.
I haven’t seen a politician since the Reagan days who had any principles.
I’m voting for the schmuck politicians that will get us in to a catastrophic famine the quickest. It may be pubs, it may be dems.
The new homo tactic is to claim that over 50% of the people support the abomination.
So that dog really has five legs, if you redefine the tail as a leg.
But a dog STILL only has four legs. a Tail is not a leg no matter what the Scotus and others say.
SAME FOR SODOMITE IMITATION MARRIAGE.
The people voted against gay marriage. The Democrat judges imposed it.
God will not be mocked.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s the FINAL nail.
I can’t support a country that has slid so far as to embrace such depravity and evil.
Another closet homo?
Yup, and the sooner they can get everyone to accept that and give up, the sooner they can turn their attention and resources to the next crappy idea that further undermines our nation.
A country is made up of it's people...our country is fast being hijacked by others who rather than adapt to our nations standards have determined to change them according to their 'desires'......both from within and those coming in. Those "desires" are contrary to what this country was founded on.
ONE NATION UNDER GOD.....
Try as they might, and no matter what they do, they will not change the fact that there are only two sexual organs, and one of them goes into the other one.
Those that love “climate science” apparently don’t like biology.
They got the 61 percent, if it’s even true, by polling young people, probably PC brainwashed college kids.
If the “country” is so in favor, how come the legislatures keep voting to ban it?
Anyway, we “lost” this one. Politically, that is. The greater loss is on the other side and is the only loss that counts.
And yet there are still hawks on the right.
At some point, the US becomes just another authoritarian pleasuredome. What are we defending, the right to purchase iPhone cases in 1,024 colors?
We are living in a time when one should fly one’s family flag above the country’s flag.
I used to subscribe to the notion of duty to God, family and country. Well, “country” now has been rendered pretty expendable. Especially when it has become the downright enemy to God and family.
” Sometimes you let the country have its way and you don’t try to determine the shape of the country, you sort of modestly step back and let the country figure out what it believes.”
After all isn’t that how the gays got their way?
Brooks is such a wuss.
Rush “hard core” on social issues?
He paid homo Elton John a MILLION DOLLARS to sing at his FOURTH wedding.
No kidding. Admittedly, Rush used to be reasonably conservative on social issues years ago, but I haven’t heard much evidence in a long while.
This past Monday, I heard most of his show on the car-radio as I was making a long drive, and it was amazing how pat, how diffident, how non-committal he sounded on the whole Supreme Court ruling. Not one negative word about homo-marriage that I heard, and he didn’t really sound all that concerned over the ‘judicial activism’ aspect of it, either. Although as I disclaimer, I did miss a bit of his show when I stopped for lunch.
But regarding what I heard, I was rather astounded at just how unconcerned and unanimated he seemed by the whole situation. It’s really sapped any interest or inclination I might have had in tuning him in again anytime soon.
